Theo Francken, the Belgian Minister of Defence, visited Anıtkabir, the largest Hittite revival structure in the world, where Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s tomb is located. He paid respect to him by kneeling down, although the official protocol doesn’t entail such a custom – and the previous foreign dignitaries didn’t do so.
He wrote the following to the Private Journal of Anıtkabir:
“On behalf of the Kingdom of Belgium and its armed forces, in this historical place, I am proud to offer my respect to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey. He was a great statesman who provided the Turks safe borders, a modern, secular constitution, and the rule of law. Thanks to this extraordinary success, Turkey has become a strong and prosperous nation, maintaining the role of ensuring regional stability to this day.”
He also remarked that Mustafa Kemal Atatürk “goes on with inspiring generations all over the world.”
Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, **the greatest leader of all**.
Mustafa Kemal Atatürk ❤️ best leader Turks ever seen
Well, Atatürk really did something extraordinary for Turkey … So unfortunate that not all countries had at least once in history a leader with the same dedication …
Did he bring that Polandball wreath, or is that the usual?
Great gesture! I love it. I listed a couple of his quotes below.
**The biggest battle is the war against ignorance.**
**Science is the most reliable guide in life.**
**Peace at Home, Peace in the World.**
Mustafa Kemal ATATÜRK
Erdogan should be there, paying his respect. Instead of destroying what Atatürk built.
He pays more respect to dead foreign leaders than to his own country.
A leader not only for Turks in Turkey, but someone we in Europe also owe a great deal to.
He pushed through incredibly difficult reforms during incredibly difficult times thanks to which one of our most strategically important neighbours, both politically and geographically, is still standing despite everything you-know-who has done over the past 20+ years. Name a better buffer!?
Those who disagree might want to imagine a Turkey that’s just as unstable as many countries in the Middle East.
Am I the only one that thinks that is a bit much.
What is Mustafa Kamal to a Belgian other than an effective commander of an enemy nation during ww1.
God bless Ataturk, a few friends of mine see him as the ideal leader
The turkish deification of a person, who committed war crimes, will never stop being ridiculous to me. There are more statues of him than civil rights in Turkey. No progressive country does that thing. If you scout the western countries you wont find 1 state that does this at this extend. Its creepy and downright moronic when people deify such past people, because in this case it opens the door for authoritarianism under the guise of “our hero would have wanted this” and “do it in his memory” + “kemal would have wanted that you guys invade the middle east and slaughter randos” from the state.. which is pretty much whats going on in that hellhole.
After all, he is, only human.
Nice to see europeans bend the knee for money disregarding their unions and continents. Shows how spineless all these politicians are, which isnt new info.
P.S : this sub recently showed that majority of the views come from america turkey etc etc. Non european visitors. And since its constantly brigaded by turkish bots, dont think i wrote this not knowing it ll be downvoted to hell. I dont regret anything.
At first glance I thought that was a Santa Claus ornament
He knee front of Hitler mini me…what a loser!
You’re the man!
Yaşa Mustafa Kemal Paşa yaşa
Here come the greeks in 3…2…1…
At least he kept his zipper closed for once.
Brother has right to kneel if he wants to.
A true secular European…
Where Turkey goes civilization ends. I think this was coined by a Belgian statesman of much higher stature than this fool.
He’s a moron
Meanwhile at comments of X
“Why those infidels like him kneels to Atatürk and not to Mehmed II, is it because Ottomans f**ked them up ?!?”
*cough* Armenia *cough*
He could probably hear attatürk rotating in there
Is EU seeking to make Turkey their ally in their planned war against Russia?
I’d kneel to Ataürk and I have exactly zero connection to Turkey.
So glad this POS speaks in my name /s
I visited Anitkabir as well to pay respect to the true democrat that seperated state from the relligion. This is the only way.
Belgian Minister of Defense does this but refuses ro say “Viba Belgique” during the Belgian national holiday
Hitler admired him and inspired by kemal.he also was pedophile and war criminal manlet dictator.
Sign of our times.
Constantinople will come back!
Why would you respect Atatürk?
I suggest every one endorsing hin, because he was secular, to research about him. Secularism was roughly the only positive thing about him.
