They will until they get fined.
Anyone with a brain rejects this new law.
Old men reject it with their death rattle, unborn children reject it in their mothers womb.
**”The Daily Star has checked the UK’s top 20 adult sites to see if the new Ofcom laws relating to underage viewers has had an impact . . . and the results were interesting.”**
Such devotion to the safety of our children
Another L for this government
Such a redundant law. VPNs exist and every level of government use VPNs and most teenagers know about VPNs and they bypass this age/identity checks.
what age protections are in place so kids dont view any tv shows showing/implying sex etc, eg something like euphoria which is meant to be showing children engaging in such activities?
>“We will be actively checking platforms’ compliance with these new duties – including how effective any measures are that they introduce – and companies that fall short should expect to face enforcement.”
Good luck forcing foreign websites in foreign countries to comply with this.
it took but a few minutes to get Opera up and running with its built in VPN to get around the age check here
this law seems a lot of faff and cost for something so easily circumvented and that I expect will only serve to teach a lot more people about VPNs
also companies that do not do business directly in the UK have zero reason to follow this
did government learn nothing from the attempts at shutting down pirate bay and similar?
Alot of people are focusing on the porn sites.
But this law is literally putting many many completely innocent and useful sites at risk.
Sites like Wikipedia will have to add age verification too to stop kids seeing articles the government doesn’t want them to.
Not to mention the many hobby forums either shutting down or need to find ways to bring these checks in without breaking the bank.
If only we could vote out the civil service and other “activists” who push this crap through..
>“We will be actively checking platforms’ compliance with these new duties – including how effective any measures are that they introduce – and companies that fall short should expect to face enforcement.”
How naive to assume that websites carrying questionable content are run by “companies”, and/or based in places where Ofcom has “enforcement” powers.
Will they just start blocking any website that doesn’t comply? So if somebody dislikes a forum, wiki or similar, will they just be able to post some risqué content there and report to Ofcom, and voilá they got it banned in the UK?
I’m all for keeping kids safe online and restricting what they can see but shouldn’t these sort of measures to be put in place for Social Media? Facebook, Insta, X, all do far far more damage to society and children that a porn site will ever do.
once they see the huge shortfall in viewing numbers how many sites will just say bollocks to that and drop the whole verification thing they just begun.?
Oh no if only there were such a thing as a vpn
I’ve been listening to all the commentary regarding this stupid law on the media today and one thing has been consistently missing: Responsibility of parents. They’re the ones who give them the devices, they’re one who pays the bills, surely they can take some responsibility for what their kids get up to online?
I would like to know my statutory rights to a wank!
Can a porn site just have a disclaimer saying they do not serve UK, but their site is public?
Get your signatures in https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/722903
Either that or enjoy the slow erosion of online anonymity
Why tf does the government wanna snoop in on what people jack it too
Digital ID scheme through the back door?
It’s so funny when a country’s government is so self righteous, that they truly believe they can force international companies to bend to their whims, when they’re *completely* out of their jurisdiction.
Daily Star doing gods work 🙏
Censorship scaling new heights. This is a dark apparatus implemented by “liberal” fascists for the purpose of mass surveillance and control
Wankers.
Anything to avoid parenting….
Next obvious step after this fails is to try and ban VPN’s as they are too easy a workaround.
Then when that fails the only solution to keep the kids safe is to ban all websites, and create a white list of sites UK citizens are allowed to visit.
Politicians will of course have final say on what can be viewed. Donations can be made by companies to get on the list.
Can’t really see any down sides tbh.
Meanwhile based china banned onlyfans as being corruption
The unsettling truth is all that personal data will be sold to companies even after they repeal it.
There’s probably some corporate lobbying to push this through and siphon as much data before it gets removed.
You can buy Nord vpn or equivalent vpns to get past this, only requirement is to have money for paid ones or find a decent free one like tor, opera built in VPN? And others.
Ain’t no way I’m giving my id to some random company online. The only time I show ID is irl to buy prohibited goods like alcohol etc
Yeah nah, I don’t submit my passport to third party American companies. See ya Reddit 😂
I suspect it’s nothing the old [one.one.one.one](http://one.one.one.one) won’t remedy.
So most sites that had some form of regulation have implemented the law and other “more darker corners” of the web, which is where most people will go to avoid this will go have just ignored the law. Did a quick check and you can still just waltz into 4chan for example.
Anyone involved in this law was clueless.
Just seems like it’s a convenient way to get everyone’s photo on a database somewhere, perhaps for those facial recognition cctv cameras etc. How dystopian.
Do you have your wanking license govner?
Jesus, this is the most pathetic “article” I’ve read in a long long time. There’s no way this isn’t an ad paid for by the age verification company.
Who’s looking forward to the future where you get taxed per tug!! The uk government once again showing just how out of touch they are…you can’t punish a whole nation because of a few bad parents.
Which VPN to choose…?
As usual the media fixates on sex…but communication sites like reddit have 2 tiers for brits and those of us controlled by our governments and those that still have Internet freedom
Brits soon to discover the most important letters in the alphabet…V P N.
This law is literally just censorship of things the gov doesnt like. What comes next? They’re already on about online curfews for children…. how will the shit be enforced.
Stops midwank to scan ID picture,
“Please use an unexpired government ID“ lol
VPN go brrrrr
The government literally won’t let us have shit I’m sick of it
Was wondering why my reddit was so watered down thris morning. Installed a VPN and within 30 seconds was like it never happened. 😂😂 Ridiculous new rules they are trying & its nothing to do with ‘saving the children’ its all just to moniter us even more
I should have put all my investments into vpn stock.
This is a back door to censoring other stuff- like the clips and information politicians are uncomfortable with-look at the what politicians say- then compare that to what their actions are- two different things.
They do not want people posting clips of war crimes or corporations doing bad things, or politicians caught in a lie.
They want to cleanse the net of anything that endangers their position or threatens their billionaire chums and corporations.
