Rishi Sunak and his wife recognise her tax situation was ‘not favourable’, minister says

  1. Just this time last week he was doing his “leave Britney alone” routine and now he’s basically fessing up.

Do we have to hold these people upside down by the legs and violently shake to get the truth out EVERY. SINGLE. BLOODY. TIME? Cos man, it’s fking exhausting…

  2. What annoyed me was how they announced that their was nothing wrong with her tax affairs but then put a press release out that she would be now paying her tax dues from abroad. Surely if you really felt you had done nothing wrong you had nothing to change?

  3. >her tax situation was ‘not favourable’,

Let me put this in plain English, she cheated her taxes, she got caught cheating her taxes and she would be quite pleased if everyone would just stop talking about how she cheated her taxes.

Only thing she is sorry about is that she got caught.

  4. So that’s Rishi Sunak’s family tax matters dealt with. Now how about the rest of the cabinet, starting with Jacob Rees-Mogg and actions on investments which have been alleged to be akin to insider dealing? Or the descendants of Ernest Marples and any income they have gained?

  5. He recognises and appreciates a lot of things that are wrong but does he intend to do anything about it?

  6. The problem is that she is married to the chancellor of the exchequer who has just raised taxes (NI) and has failed to put a cap on energy.

Then it’s come out she is using ways to avoid paying tax to the country that her husband is the chancellor and they have basically both admired by using a non-dom status that they do not expect to stay in this country.

    It’s quite pathetic.

  7. Is it time we prevent people who have anything other than a British passport and settled status in the UK to be in the government?

  8. Because of the damage it has done to Rishi’s chances of becoming PM. It was fine when they chose to do it that way and right up until they were called out.
