good. without detterence there will be no peace of mind
We have conscription here in Norway, though only the best are called to the colours, unlike during the Cold War, when I did my military service. This is due how our erstwhile politicians have wrecked our Armed Forces since 1991.
If we want peace, we have to prepare for war. If we want independence from the US, we need to be able to defend our own soil alone.
If we don’t want to defend ourselves, why should we expect others to do it?
Here we go again
Please weed out the far-right extremists as you go.
Given the plans to purchase tanks, the Bundeswehr will need people.
Finland, with a population of 5,6 million, trains about 24 000 conscripts for the reserve every year. Germany, with nearly 15 times the population, certainly should manage at least twice the Finnish numbers.
I freaking hate this timeline…
“Ask not what your country can do for you but […]”
“**Was hast du heute für Deutschland getan?**”
Germany… Teens… Army.
What could go wrong?
this again??
That’s not much. They’re country of 80 million and Finland 5 million and Finland enlists something like that annually. So actually Germany could enlist 600.000 per year.
As a german id be suprised if they could even scratch up 4000 teens annually, that would lift a finger for their country.
Germany is trying real hard to fuck over young people. Maybe ask old people? They are always more than happy to send people to the military as surveys concluded.
The government that villified the military and people who hate any person who is in the Bundeswehr should make this a breeze /s. Good luck
If it’s like before, teens with smoke weed before the physical examination or, since it is legal now, take something else and fail through. Though, it doesn’t mean they are off the hook. They have to do “Zivildienst” which is basically like a social year where they work for peanuts and do things similar to volunteer work full time. I did Zivildienst volunteerily (FSJ / BFD) and liked it a lot. It opened my eyes to many things 🙂 Sadly, I couldn’t go to the military for health reasons.
How about conscription boomers? Most roles are non-combat anyways, use them as administrator staff, technicians, equipment operators, etc.
Reserve the youth only for the most critical, physical roles of the army.
We are back in business, let’s rehire Boss for the suits !
Well they have the most experience of gathering the Jugend
People are talking about conscription, but: No.
Conscription isn’t a military recruitment “solve all problems” button, it’s a way to overcome static friction in a process where kinetic friction is low. Or, in plain English, conscription works in countries with highly patriotic people who, however, are also distrustful of the state or have a culture of shirking responsibility. Turkey and Greece are prime examples of this. They’ll try to get out of going to the army with all their might, but once in they’ll dutifully sit in the trenches.
Western Europe’s youth is… not that. “The system,” Europe as-is, whatever you want to call it, basically has no friends under 30 left. There’s high static friction, i.e. opposition to joining the army, but also high kinetic friction, i.e. opposition to doing your job once you’re in.
Which is to say that without buy-in by the people you are conscripting, conscription gives you a palette swap of the Afghan National Army, ready to crumble to dust at the first sign of conflict.
The issue is also that the main recruitment pool for any military, young men of weak socio-economic and academic background, is fairly split down the middle as far as what they’d like to see politically goes. You have the extremes (seen, rightly or wrongly, as protest options against the system) very well-represented, with barely anyone in the middle (which would be an endorsement of the system to some extent).
It’s the worst of all worlds. You basically don’t appeal to either side of a fairly evenly split group where trying to appeal to one side will automatically alienate the other. Conscription doesn’t fix this, it just puts these dysfunctional parts together into an on-paper army that’s basically Schroedinger’s fighting force irl, and you’ll only know if you actually have an army once the bullets start flying, possibly the worst time to find out.
Yeah no, this won’t happen lol. Very strong anti-army sentiment in the country.
People around the continent are cheering for this, but the only people who will really enlist will be all the youth neo-Nazis. With a neo-nazi party currently leading the polls, I’m not sure if the rest of Europe will like that development.
(male) teens
Ramping up the military just in time before the 40s, everything is as it should be.
Goodluck with that. Germans are strongly pacifist.
what teens, half of germany’s young people are foreigners
Just imagine if they tried to do this in Italy…
The ruling class and politicians should send their children and great children first, lead by example.
Germany is not in war, and please stop with this “Russia” nonsense, they have no plans to conquer Europe unless you played too many WWII video games and got your head spun.
Those who profit financially and geopolitically from those wars should finally get consequences for their war mongering
It s gonna be a failure lmao . Zoomers don t want to die for Germany
I hope it’s the case of “Si vis pacem, para bellum”
hm
Meh. I’m all for strengthening our defenses but enlisting teens… not a fan. Not a fan.
Plenty of 18 year olds served in WWII and from all the Allied countries, not just those in Europe. This is long overdue as Europe moves to strengthen its military and attain independence.
It was about time. Well done to Germany
Good luck finding volunteers, lol
Round 3
With how terrible our army infrastructure is, I doubt anyone will show up.
Imo, conscription should never have been abolished
Do they really have enough brooms for that? https://www.atlanticcouncil.org/blogs/natosource/german-soldiers-used-broomsticks-instead-of-guns-during-nato-exercise/
Let’s be real, if the shit hits the fan our countries will do the same as Ukraine in the first year and prioritize sending into trenches mainly older men 45+ who have big part of their working life behind them and are less economically valuable as men in their 20s.
This is what the world has come to. Germany is pushing for Europe’s largest army, and everyone is relieved.
Immigrants welcome to Germany.
When is the EU goping to finally make an EU army? It seems this is the next logical step to take for them to rearm.
What number “Reich” would that be
Imagine signing up to give your life to defend the abomination that is the modern german state lol
Only missing thing is a Metallurgische Forschungsgesellschaft (MEFO).
Imagine being in the army of gouvernement that tell your country isn’t your’s…
