The West can dramatically shift Russia-Ukraine war — Gen. Hodges. If Western countries, particularly the U.S., used €300 billion of frozen Russian assets to finance Ukraine’s defense, it would radically change the course of the war, he says.

  1. That many should have been fully used to plan Ukrainian defense long ago

  2. This is EU’s decision. EU holds 224 bln of these assets.

  3. Even if the US won’t, Europe should. Saying as a European. If we can’t/won’t provide all material necessary, send them massive amounts of cash. They’re building an enormous amount of warfare factories that need money and essentials.

All of which will benefit all of us. Can’t believe we are even talking about it; we should be engaged by now.

  4. Should have already been done. People are dying while the west debates and trump delays

  5. “Could” “Would”, that’s as far as US/EU is going to go, shocked after all of his years of service he assumes someone in EU or US will go all in on helping Ukraine. If anything will be done, it’s because Ukraine is facing imminent collapse, but by that point no amount of aid will help Ukrainians.

  6. The west immediately shifted the war when the orange guy was elected and switched sides. Europe and other former US allies must step up and fill in where needed, even if it means troops on the ground in Ukraine. Their military is tired and at the breaking point.

  7. Are they still talking about this? They have been talking for years. Just do it!

  8. If someone explained to the orange boy that Ukraine would use this money to purchase American arms from American manufacturers and employ thousands of Americans while his rich American friends got even richer, then Ukraine would have the Rubles faster than McDonalds could serve his next Big Mac.

  9. I thought there is already a substantial amount of loans given to ukraine that are backed from the revenue from these held assets. Its not like they are not using them at all. They should be able to secure more loans against these russian held assets and really leverage them without having to take the principal. Otherwise they should have just taken the principal from the very beginning.
