To the editor,
Daily, I am aware of what could be called a real-life horror story – the Donald Trump presidency. Trump has a history of lies, but now they are not just words; they have deadly and calamitous consequences.
Trump falsely dismisses, with repeated disbelief, the violent climate crisis, notwithstanding record fires, floods, hurricanes, sea level rise and droughts. His response to these problems is push to abolish FEMA, already firing thousands of staff. He is also dismissing scientists who study, document and predict approaching climate disasters, from federal agencies, including the National Weather Service and the EPA, and cutting grants to scientific organizations and universities.
The health of we, the people, is not a concern for Trump.
Recently he exempted more than 100 polluters from environmental standards, clean air rules. This contrasts with Trump’s claim to “Make America Healthy Again.” Big corporate polluters will cause more cancer, birth defects and more children to suffer asthma.
Trump also absurdly and cravenly asserts the super-rich (his cronies) and giant corporations are over-taxed. His response to this ridiculous allegation is to push through Congress super-rich tax cuts, ballooning the deficit, forcing cuts in Medicaid and even Medicare, afflicting people with disabilities, and closing many rural hospitals.
His “Big Beautiful Bill” is cruelty, cutting feeding programs for the poor, children. Millions of people also face losing health insurance.
The Trump theme and tone is morbid. The term ecocide fits his actions and disregard for nature. Ecocide is the destruction of the natural environment by deliberate or negligent human action.
His theme is selfishness and catering to one’s group. Others don’t matter, they are even adversaries. It’s beyond the beyond that this person, Trump, has followers since he seems devoid of heart and soul.
Peace, love and the truth – we belong to earth, the earth does not belong to us, must be regained if we, the people, and our home, earth, have a future. A bumper sticker I saw said “Reject the morbid Trump, embrace the gifts of life.” I agree!
