Thailand F-16 jet bombs Cambodian targets as border clash escalates • FRANCE 24 English

Hello, low running to the local shelter for safety, these residents of Thailand’s Sutin province have just heard clashes coming from the nearby border with Cambodia. Hiding under concrete bunkers that are fortified by sandbags and tires filled with dirt. They tried to count the gunfire and explosions. How many rounds have been fired? It’s countless. At a nearby hospital, Thai soldiers took cover. Strikes fell. They crawled their way inside. In a separate attack, Thai officials said multiple people were killed from a strike near Thai gas station and others lost their lives as Cambodian rockets and shells were shot over across the border. Thailand in turn said one of its F-16 jets destroyed a military target. And the government announced it’s readied half a dozen other jets for deployment. The Royal Thai government is prepared to intensify our self-defense measures if Cambodia persist in its armed aggression and violations upon Thailand’s sovereignty in accordance with international law and principles. Cambodia in turn also blamed Thailand in a statement. Today, the Thai military launched an attack on Cambodian military positions. Cambodia has always adhered to its stance of resolving issues peacefully. However, in this case, we have no choice but to respond with armed force against this armed invasion. For more than a century, border disputes between Cambodia and Thailand have been a long-standing issue with occasional skirmishes. But relations between the two nations, which share an 817 km land border, began to disintegrate in May when a Cambodian soldier was killed in a firefight. Since then, both sides have blamed one another for the escalating tensions and clashes.

Thailand says its F-16 jet destroyed military target Cambodia says Thai jets dropped two bombs on a road, condemns ‘aggression’. At least 11 civilians and 1 soldier killed in Thailand, health minister says.

  1. Why does the World Court or other countries in the world help Cambodia, even though it is a country of thieves with only bad people? Or does the world need people like this to be the leaders in the world?

  2. stop acting you guys, Thailand didnt just fight with Cambodia. Thailand has been made violent with Malaysia, Myanmar and Lao. World know what kind of person you are, now stop playing victims

  3. It’s truly sad how people in the comment section deem Cambodia as the Villian without knowing the context. If you get rid of your bias, read the news without taking side, you would clearly know who want this war more. Cambodia would have advantages if this dispute goes to international court, they have inferior military, why would they event want to fight. Obviously it’s because Thailand force this war. They don’t want to settle it by legal means

  4. Thai love to act victims. They keep provoking their nonsense war continually. They fabricate stories and play victims.

  5. Thai has more powerful military power.

    Has more powerful media.

    Has a more powerful economy.

Why would we (Cambodia) start a conflict with them?

    Use your logic!

In addition, Cambodia is the one that wants to bring these cases to the ICJ. However, Thailand rejects this mechanism.

  6. This headline can make a misunderstanding. you can do better. Headline had to fairly and equally. Don't fall one side. 🙂

  7. Cambodia's objective is to compel Thailand to appear before the International Court of Justice (ICJ). By launching attacks, they aim to pressure Thailand into returning to the Court. However, Thailand withdrew from the ICJ a long time ago, and the United States is also no longer a party to it.

  8. A 2013 ICJ (International Court of Justice) clarification ruled that Cambodia has sovereignty over the entire promontory where the temple sits. That makes it Cambodia’s, not Thailand’s. Thailand just won't accept it, just because they spit shinned their temple.

  9. Consider these critical points of view:

    1. Thailand escalated with fighter jets bombing Cambodian territory:
Deploying F-16 jets is a major military escalation, signaling offensive action, not just border defense. Cambodia’s military response using artillery and rockets is consistent with defending the land, not launching attacks. So you be the judge who made the first decisive move toward war?

    2. Cambodia consistently seeks legal and diplomatic solutions
Evidently, Cambodia has appealed repeatedly to the International Court of Justice (ICJ), ASEAN, UN Security Council (UNSC) to peacefully resolve disputes.

    3. Historical behavior and interests:
Why would Thailand choose this moment to strike hard? The government needs a distraction from internal turmoil. Accordingly to psychology and Social Identity Theory, Nationalism is a convenient tool to unite people against an external enemy.

    4. Thai media is heavily influenced by the state and military.
For months, official Thai outlets have framed Cambodia as the "aggressor", preparing the public to accept escalating violence and justify military strikes. This one-sided narrative ignores Cambodian perspectives and realities.

    5. The real victims are ordinary people on both sides.
Civilians are caught in the crossfire, with lives lost, homes destroyed, and communities gone. The human cost is too high to ignore amid political games.

    6. Why would Cambodia want war? We’re living with the slogan “Thanks to Peace.”
Cambodia is still healing from decades of conflict. We don’t glorify war, we fear it, remember it, and are still rebuilding from it. Its not just a political slogan here it’s a lived experience, a national memory, a survival. We’re a developing country focused on infrastructure, education, and growth. War threatens everything we’ve worked for.
What would Cambodia possibly gain from starting a war?
We’ve seen what war does. We’ve buried those memories. We don’t want to go back.

  10. Thai closed the temple which agreed to occupied by both side before any judgment since 2000. When Cambodian troops went to open up that fence they shoot 6 bullets to Cambodian troops, and started bombing on the road up mountain to Preah Vihear temple, Cambodia has no choice, they are richer, more advanced in military equipment and aggressively started this war. Before that, they even refused to go to ICJ, claimed to solve conflict by war only.

  11. The area were abandoned for over a century after the Khmer Empire collapsed. Now people will pay to see those old temples and both sides want a full ownership of the area.

  12. As a Thai🇹🇭. There is the phrase in our national anthem "ไทยนี้รักสงบ แต่ถึงรบไม่ขลาด (The Thai people are peace-loving but they are not cowards at war)". WE REALLY MEAN IT! Cambodia started, we responded, and that's pretty fair."😏😏

  13. Half Vietnamese and in the process of cutting ties with my Cambodian family.

I been served Ku Theiu and told “here’s your pho.” That’s not a mistake. It’s mockery.

It’s a way of saying “you don’t belong here,” without saying it. Little rituals. Little digs. Smirks. Whispers in the kitchen. They think it’s subtle — it’s not. It’s hostile skirmishes.

That’s not culture. That’s abuse wrapped in tradition. Served with fake smiles.

And there are consequences for what we do in our homes, which spread to the world.

It’s a lot of words to say. As a former half Cambodian, I blame the Cambodians for this. Get over your Empire. It has been gone for 10 centuries.

  14. We all know that these are gonna happen, but who started it first when knowing that these are the consequences??? Thai refused to stay in peace, they had even killed a Cambodian soldier since 'The border problem between Thailand-Cambodia'. If they cared so much about their people, they wouldn't be this greedy of wanting to rule other's territories, their soldiers even sheltered before their civilians. I feel bad for the innocence in both country.

  15. Thailand has F16. Cambodia has “fewer” resources. Who can actually play victim? Want to bring the matters to the court by start bombing community and hospital. That is unethical and provoking. And this refers to military and ministers. Local people suffer both sides.

  16. Their intention is absolutely clear — they flew F-16s and dropped bombs on us. Three F-16s — that’s no small act. We fired only in self-defense, and only within our own territory. Cambodia is not at fault. The real violator is Thailand, who trespassed on our land and tried to take what belongs to us. They launched the attacks first.”

  17. In the 2020 COVID era, the Westerdam Cruise Ship of the United States 🇺🇸 was not accepted by any country, including Thailand 🇹🇭. Only Cambodia 🇰🇭 dared to accept this ship, even though it could face the COVID problem very much. This shows that Cambodia is a small country but has a big heart. How can Cambodia have the will to start a war?

  18. There’s no way that CAMBODIA has intentions to invade Thailand or start the war , I don’t understand why you guys believe fake news that much

  19. Cambodia started fired first by targeting on civilians , people home and also hospital and school. So many Thai civilians died. And then Thailand army had to attacked back on only military base. It's unacceptable to fire on innocent people!

  20. Y'all Siam in the comments section can't take the truth? Seeing all your spamming fakes news on every single dam videos about these news and saying this is misleading while it the truths and when y'all saying is not a lies? Just take a break either way you might be heart attack by spreading the fakes news since y'all did not catch a break 😔

  21. The French are the same as the Khmers, and that's where the war started. It's in history. There's data on Google and Australian satellite data that confirms that Cambodia started it first. The French should also be held accountable, because in ASEAN, everyone knows that the French started it, but they pretend that I had nothing to do with it.
