On this day Russian empress Catherine II started a wave of ethnic cleansing in Crimea, forcing the resettlement of Greeks and Armenians and leading to the extinction of Crimean Gothic, a Eastern Germanic language.

It was a crimea against humanity
it’s all russophobia /s
It worked thats why they doing it again and again and specifically Crimea multiple times, it gives them advantage , because down the line puppets like Tucker Carlson and alike now say Crimea is Russian, with argument- look how many russian are there.
Same thing they doing today on occupied Ukrainian territory, they forbidden Ukrainian language , and force locals to run or killing them by force mobilization, and in future Russia will be saying – how is that territory Ukrainian, look how many Russian are there.
Russia never changes.
Yet so many greeks still support Russia and its actions against the west. Its so stupid watching them try explain why ukraine “deserved” what it got and it all comes down to conspiracy theories. Even though we were never eastern in the cold war, we have so many common habits with the other eastern european countries in terms of propaganda…
I expect so much from our people only to be quickly disappointed, when the Russians have committed so many awful things to greeks… they were never real allies as many naive people try depict. Clinging to a dead empire and ideology, the old world, will never help us.
Russia and crimes against humanity. No better duo.
On this day ok, but which year?
Catherine II: “the only way I can defend the borders of Russia is by expanding them.”
Un.ironically, Maria Z*kharova called for the establishment of the International Day against russophobia for the 27.07.2025.
This is what Putin would do if he had a small fraction of Stalin’s, Ivan the Terrible’s, or Catherine the Great’s power and influence.
Im pretty sure crimean gothic died before.
Literally every single european country was doing fucked up shit in the 1700’s
Poles and Lithuanians also remember Catherine the 2nd pretty well too. The final PLC partition happened under her tenure.
This was common practice in the past. Most european countries did something similar
I think people forget how much slave-raiding the Crimean Tatars were doing. They enslaved countless Ukrainians who were sold into slavery in the Ottoman empire.
And how to forget what pope francis told the russian youth back in August 2023:
>[“You are the heirs of the great Russia: the great Russia of saints, of kings, the great Russia of Peter the Great, of Catherine II, of that great, enlightened Russian empire, of great culture and great humanity,”](https://www.politico.eu/article/pope-francis-russia-youth-legacy-empire/)
>“Never give up this legacy, you are the heirs of the great Mother Russia, go forward with it,”
Crimean Gothic was also the last East Germanic language after the passing of the Vandals, Visigoths, Ostrogoths and Suebes already in the Middle Ages 👀☝️
The interesting fact they settled new villages including: Mariupol, Urzuf, Stary Krym. This is why towns/villages around Mariupol has twins in Crimea or originated in Crimea like Mariupol itself.
Crimean Gothic was the last Eastern Germanic language. I hope someone persevered it, at least
Russian empress Catherine II was German, born and raised in a land which is now modern day Poland.
Crimean goth sounds really cool as a language
Its funny how r/europe or rather some users have this view that 1960s Africa was a bajillion years ago why bring it up or “why complain: but also “remind yourself of Russia imperial crimes like it was yesterday” instead of a tragic histotical event.
Sauce wiki:
The first planned settlements of Germans in Crimea were founded over 1805–1810 with the support of Czar Alexander I. The first settlements were: Friedental – in the district of Simferopol; formed in 1806 by Lutherans. Heilbrunn – in the district of Feodosiya; formed in 1809 by Lutherans
But then they deported everyone in 1941 to Central Asia, I think
russian and genociding people. Name a better combo. Look up the Circassian Genocide. Will surprise you
As a Balkan guy, I have to ask how much of this is true, and how much is a myth? Do I smell a Potemkin here?
Russia is a pure evil and stays it this way today, some parts of the world just pretend to not notice that. So many people lost their lives and homes because of them. This is 21st century we’re talking about. I’m damn really pessimistic about the future of humanity…
Rare to see someone call her Catherine the 2nd inatead of Catherine the Great
Okay so do people realize that this post is starting to get from “fuck actions of russia/russians” to the racist notion of “all russians are inherently evil”?
Taking centuries old attrocities and using them justify why russians are bad now is just racism. Moreover basically every nation with long enough history has countless crimes in their name.
Armenians has settled on a don river, made a lot of settlements and a city near Rostov-on-don named Nakhichevan-on-Don which was fairly big and was assimilated into Rostov only under Soviet rule. A lot of Armenians still keep their traditions and know at least 2 languages (Russian and Armenian)
[removed]
So I guess Putin is just keeping the tradition.
russia gonna rush ya outtahere…
some things never change 🙁
On the other side – she liked horses too much before it became popular
One question…where were these Greeks and Armenians came from?
When did the Tartars get cleansed, before that?
