Former Israel Police Commissioner, retired Chief Superintendent Moshe Karadi, who serves as chairman of the group “Police Officers for the Protection of Democracy and Police,” spoke at a protest against the government in Habima Square in Tel Aviv, saying that “the minister’s spirit infiltrates the organization and affects officers’ behavior, who were taught in their very first lesson at police academy that their job is to protect freedom of expression and opinion, not prevent it.” According to him, “The prime minister’s decision to appoint a person with a criminal background to head the ministry overseeing the police is the rotten fruit whose results we have been feeling in the past year – record-breaking crime rates by every parameter, loss of sovereignty and governance, and loss of personal security for Israeli citizens.”
