Still baffled by this honestly. Maybe it’s just my uncultured American brain but I’ve never gotten a straight answer out of a German as to why this was needed and why they continued with the final shutdowns even post-2022. The only answer is “the decision was already made.”
So they’re buying lng from Russia to….save money.
And China likes wasting money on nuclear.
Yeah but China is also is still building coal power plants as well. For example in 2024 China consumed about 4.5 billion tons of coal and trending up. The rest of the world minus China consumed around 4 billion tons of coal and is trending down or flattening.
China has committed to wind down their reliance on coal but that has yet to be realized in any meaningful way.
