Expressway services won’t be cut. Which is quite odd as they are introducing the airport collection charges. To encourage people to use public transport to get to the airport.
I know Expressway is a private service owned by B.E so has different rules regarding state aid but surely by cutting the fares will lead to an increase in people using the service.
I know when I go back to the office, I will not be using Bus Eireann as it adds over an hour a day to the commute VS using the expressway service.
the 90 minute thing is great honestly, I mostly only use it at the weekends since I WFH most weekdays – but it’s class being able to get into town and the second bus being free to get somewhere else
Very good news. Public transport in this country has always been ridiculously expensive compared to the service we actually get.
Thanks Eamon Ryan
Muggins here bought an Annual Leap Card last November and then it turns out it’s cheaper not to have had one. I’ll know for next year
Irish rail have already started reducing their fares the past few weeks, but have also reduced the nymbet of the trains running. Makes no sense
Great…..just in time for college ending
Currently paying €55 a week on train tickets as a student. Hopefully this is a permanent measure that’ll help reduce costs in the new school year
It would be great if they set individual fares for each route. The route from where I live is about 15 minutes by bus to the next town. It’s a 6 minute drive but the bus route adds in a load of stops on rural spots which means that you can get to the maximum fare really fast. The 15 minute stop to the closest shop is the same cost as a 1 hour ride to Dublin city.
Nice to see.
Is the 20% drop in fares only for Dublin, or does it apply to bus eireann services nation wide?
Be good now if they actually ran the bus services on time and more available on the nighttime routes and in the evening. 15 being a 24hour bus is a joke to get on if your past camdon street after 12oclock on a weekend
But the Greens are just trying to tax us???
What is the young adult leap fares they talk about here? Is it that 16-18 leap card or is it the new 19-23 card that’s supposedly coming out later this year? Or is it something else?
Does that mean they’re going to be paying us to use the Luas, can’t get much cheaper than free..
What the fuck is this nonsense! this is Ireland! we should be inventing better ways to rip people off! /s
The recent improvements in transport fees is the only good thing to happen in this country in the last while. but it’s mostly only Dubliners who benefit from this.
Makes sense. Believe in was in the pipeline pre-covid but it will also make public transport a more appealing option for the majority of office workers who have moved to a hybrid WFH model. The tax-savers tics are pointless if you’re not required in office 5/days week.
