  1. I suspect that there’s a much bigger problem afoot if people are abandoning their parents. There may be major economic issues forcing this, and if it isn’t it’s almost always the parents fault anyway. They raised this child into a person who abandons people in their hour of need, or were so horrible that reasonable well raised people abandoned them.

    And a fine and jail time seems to be counter productive if the end is to encourage people to take care of their elders. If it was me I wouldn’t feel safe with a person who is forced by threat of state violence to take care of me. They may bump me off. Looking for and solving the underlying issues seems to be a better use of state resources than legal services for arseholes.

  2. It’s funny, every other civilized country has some sort of pension system for the elderly, but the Philippines is just gona hoist that cost on the children? Can’t talk shit since America is working hard towards the same end.
