North Korea plans to transfer additional troops to Russia

North Korea may send additional troops to Russia as early as August 2025.

This was reported by Reuters, citing sources in South Korean intelligence.

North Korean troops are expected to take part in combat operations against Ukraine. According to lawmaker Lee Song-kwun, the issue was discussed during a closed meeting with the National Intelligence Service. The likely deployment of North Korean troops, according to intelligence, coincides with Russia’s plans for a major offensive operation in August.

Pyongyang has already begun a new wave of mobilization in preparation for sending its troops to Russia. It is also known that a high-ranking representative of the Russian Security Council arrived in the DPRK in May, which was probably part of the coordination of joint actions.

The agreement provides for mutually beneficial cooperation: Russia receives ammunition and missiles, and the DPRK gets access to satellite launch technology and missile guidance systems. All this was made possible by the mutual defense pact signed by Kim Jong-un and Vladimir Putin in June 2024 during a meeting at the Vostochny Cosmodrome.

The rapprochement between Moscow and Pyongyang has raised concerns among Ukraine’s allies. South Korea and the United States have already condemned the potential involvement of the DPRK in the war, noting that it would only exacerbate the conflict and further isolate North Korea on the international stage. On July 13, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un publicly reaffirmed his readiness to support any actions by the Kremlin aimed at “resolving the Ukrainian conflict.”

Let us recall that the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Rustem Umerov, stated that the DPRK has attracted 11 thousand servicemen from Kim Jong-un’s elite contingent to the war against Ukraine.

North Korea may reportedly send additional troops to Russia to take part in a new offensive in July or August.

In addition, North Korea will send six thousand of its citizens to Russia , who will “restore” the Kursk region.
