Today sees Donegal and Kerry, the Ulster and Munster champions, clash with Sam Maguire and the title of All-Ireland champions at stake.

Croke Park is the setting for the biggest day in the football calendar, and there is little to separate the two finalists.

Donegal swept through Ulster, although needed extra time against Armagh to come out on top in the provincial final.

Kerry had a similar path, but saw their toughest Munster opponent come in the semi-final, in the shape of old rivals, Cork.

The All-Ireland group phase presented a whole different set of challenges, with both sides suffering losses that came as a surprise to many.

Tyrone won out in Ballybofey, and Meath were the victors in the Kingdom’s final group game, with both sides destined for the preliminary quarter-finals.

Kerry have knocked out three Ulster sides (Cavan, Armagh and Tyrone) of the race for Sam Maguire, with David Clifford being at his clinical best for Jack O’Connor’s side, and his brother Paudie proving to be a vital cog in the machine.

Donegal did away with Louth, Monaghan and Meath on the road to the All-Ireland final against Kerry, with legend Michael Murphy proving to be one of the missing ingredients from last year’s formula.
