An appeal over the 'leniency' of an Oxford trainee teacher's sentence, after he shared more than 1,000 clips including the rape of newborn babies, has been unsuccessful.
Jacob Chouffot, of Iffley, distributed and received more than 1,000 of the most serious Category A films and photos between 2015 and 2019.
Yet despite the severity of the offences, the 26-year-old was not given a custodial sentence when appearing in Oxford Crown Court in November last year.
This was because the judge said he was not a direct danger to the public after Chouffot admitted 14 counts of making, possessing and distributing child abuse images.
He was made subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and was ordered to do 30 rehab sessions as well as 180 hours of unpaid work.
In addition, the 26-year-old was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register for 10 years but no custodial sentence was handed out rather a two-year suspended sentence.
Following the news that Chouffat walked free, Conservative Party county and district councillor Liam Walker called for a stronger sentence.
In a letter penned to Rt Hon Lord Richard Hermer KC, Mr Walker outlined the “grotesque” nature of the paedo’s offences.
He said: “I write with deep concern about the sentence issued to 26-year-old Jacob Chouffot from Oxford who was this week sentenced at Oxford Crown Court after admitting to 14 counts of making, possessing, and distributing child abuse images between 2015-2019.
“Media reports outline how Chouffot used two phones to share and store photos and videos with one phone containing 570 Category A images including 484 images, featuring children as young as six months.
“Another device he had contained 462 Category B and 63 Category C images.
“I cannot comprehend how Chouffot admitting to making, possessing, and distributing such appalling images, with many including babies, has only resulted in him getting a two-year suspended sentence and 180 hours of unpaid work.
“I strongly believe given the grotesque nature of his crimes this Crown Court sentence should be reviewed by your office, and I have therefore formally submitted a request to do so.”
However, in a recent public statement, Mr Walker confirmed the appeal had been unsuccessful.
He said: "Last year I wrote to the Attorney General’s office after hearing about, in my view, the leniency of a sentence issued to Oxford resident Jacob Chouffot.
"After chasing up for a response on the July 22 the AG’s office has confirmed that no such review will take place.
"This is of course disappointing but I stand by the need to challenge the decision made – and that I feel that such a grotesque crime warranted a harsher punishment."

Absolutely appalling, and the offender is an obvious danger to Children. He deserves to be put in prison and I hope another appeal can be started.
180 hours of UPW for having over 1k images of children being sexually abused as well as distributing content. What a joke of a sentence.
If only he’d chopped down a tree instead.
What I don’t understand is that people with much lesser csam offences have had jail sentences.
I mean, this guy apparently **made** these videos and images implying he was involved in actual physical abuse.
Are we surprised? Very disturbing trend with british judiciary’s leniency with crimes of this nature
Obviously friends with someone very important.
Two tier justice system.
These nonces with digital material always get 2 years fucking suspended. Blows my mind they get to go home and be a good boy until they’re not.
Something wrong with the English
So sharing extreme CSAM gets you a much lighter sentence than tweeting about immigration hotels…..
Looks like justice should be served in a different way
