“offer no business value” – a great way of saying they have no clue about human psychology. Streaming does not mean they’re not working. It could be the equivalent of using Spotify to them.
This is why I use the download feature on Netflix and Disney. Do it at home, or you can get around the block by starting a download using data, then switch to the work guest wifi.
They’ll even auto delete my watched episodes and download the next few.
I’m sure this article has nothing to do with them drumming up support for the cuts they’ve proposed to our public sector. Otherwise they might mention what those terabytes equal once spread across the 357,000 employees.
Call me crazy but 1000 hours per month across an entire department does not seem like an incredible amount of time to me. In a 100 person department that’s like 30 minutes of HD video per working day per person. If everyone streamed an episode of something on their work device at lunch that would account for it.
The data use is comical. For context, my Linux iso server used 2TB this month for right users. I have no issue with the block on work networks, it’s pretty funny that they weren’t blocking until now. Pearl-clutching over it is ridiculous though. Block Netflix, address individual malingerers, move along.
I want to know what, specifically, the percentage the Yukon contributed, because I feel like EVERYONE would be willing to see the data breakdown and surprised about how much to that was done by employees in the territory…
They’ve done it, they solved the deficit issue! This will free up productivity and the debt will be gone in a few years!
That amount of streaming is piddly, I’ve worked at places where I just wanted to enjoy my lunch by myself and watch a show.
Sounds like a DOGE initiative.
It’s dumb bc the departments are so large. Listen, if you show your team something wholesome and that teaches something good once a month as a thank you to people then ya whatever. There is worse money being spent. How about we focus on the billionaires.
