Finland has broken another weather record, with Sunday marking the 16th consecutive day where temperatures have reached above 30 degrees Celsius somewhere in the country.

This marks the third day in a row that the all-time record has been surpassed.

The previous record was set in 1972, when temperatures climbed above 30 degrees for 13 consecutive days. Temperature records have been kept in Finland since 1961.

According to Yle meteorologist Aleksi Lohtander, the milestone was first reached on Saturday in Parikkala, with other areas expected to follow suit by the end of the day.

Heat record also broken in Finnish Lapland, where temperatures of over 25°C have now been recorded for 17 days in a row

25°C is the threshold for a heatwave — this marks the longest heatwave streak in Lapland's history.

On Saturday, the temperature reached 26.2 degrees in Ylitornio and 25.6 degrees in Rovaniemi, with Lohtander predicting even higher readings later in the day.

  1. Hopefully this is going to end soon. It’s unbearable, I hate this heat!

  2. In 2035 “remember that time Mikko in 2025, it was the hottest weather in Finland” A legend is born

  3. Happily visiting mother in law, which strange as one would expect hell to be hotter place than Finland..

  4. Yea, terrible time to have a small baby and no AC. It’s 30C inside and we’re all miserable.

  5. Window open 24/7 letting in the mosquitos just to barely survive.

  6. Last time this was during Kekkonen’s presidency. Nothing to see here. That was 50 years ago.

Elokapina can go to the streets, but I doubt.

  7. Way too hot for Nordics. It is a disaster for local fauna and flora.

I’m just sitting here naked after shower and watching Archive 81 with fan pointing to my groin.

If you’re living in an apartment with glassed balcony and sun is right pointing at your apartment then I suppose it is as living in mini hell.

  8. I heard from someone a lot of the apartments are built to withstand -30 degrees don’t know if that’s true

  9. My eggplant in the backyard welcome it but mustard greens loathe it. I am torn.
