According to figures released on Monday by the Croatian Bureau of Statistics (DZS), the average net monthly salary in Croatia for May 2024 was €1,451, while the gross salary stood at €2,019.
This represents a 0.8% nominal and 0.5% real increase compared to April.
Compared to May 2023, the average net salary is now 9.6% higher in nominal terms and 5.9% higher in real terms, after accounting for inflation, which stood at 3.5% year-on-year, N1 reported.
The median net salary for May was €1,236, marking a 1.5% increase from April and a 10.2% rise from the same month last year.
Despite the overall growth, wage disparities remain wide across sectors.
The highest average salaries were recorded in top management, with an average of €2,935.
Positions such as Chief Executive Officers can earn up to €5,269, while IT and finance directors also command high salaries.
At the other end of the scale, the lowest average salaries are found in the textile and leather industries, at just €937 per month.
Roles such as seamstresses, shoemakers and garment pressers typically earn under €1,100.
The current minimum gross wage in Croatia is €970 per month (around €750 net), applicable to lower-skilled roles such as cleaners, unqualified labourers and some textile workers.
The highest reported wages by occupation go to air traffic controllers, whose monthly earnings can reach €7,044, followed by certain pilots and senior managers.
Croatia’s wage data, sourced from the portal Moja Plaća, also shows significant variations within sectors. For instance, IT professionals average €1,874, while those in hospitality and tourism earn €1,287 on average.
These figures highlight the country’s growing wage levels, but also underline ongoing sectoral gaps and the impact of inflation on real earnings.
