The Reds have returned to the country for the first time since 2005 to take on J1 League side Yokohama F. Marinos on Wednesday, with kick-off set for 7.30pm local time (11.30am BST).

The club last took to the pitch in Japan during the FIFA Club World Championship two decades ago, facing Deportivo Saprissa in the last four and Sao Paulo in the final. Both occasions took place at Nissan Stadium.

The stadium is home to Yokohama F. Marinos, alongside rugby union team Yokohama Eagles, and has also hosted home matches for the Japan national team.

It first opened in March 1998 and has since hosted a range of renowned football fixtures – including those part of the 2002 World Cup, Confederations Cup, Intercontinental Cup, several editions of the FIFA Club World Cup and the 2020 Olympics. It was also a host stadium during the 2019 Rugby World Cup.
