Brazil’s Bolsonaro risks arrest over breach of court restrictions in coup case • FRANCE 24 English

Surrounded by a crowd of journalists, Ja Bolsinaro flashed the electronic ankle bracelet he has been ordered to wear by Brazil’s Supreme Court. I’m an innocent person. What they’re doing to the former president of the republic is cowardly. We are going to face everyone. What matters to me is the law of God. Yeah, ladies. Involved in a criminal case in which he is accused of planning a coup, the former Brazilian president was instructed to wear the device and banned from using social media last week. This over allegations that he sought the interference of Donald Trump, who imposed 50% tariffs on Brazil, citing a witch hunt against Bolsinaro. On Monday, a Supreme Court judge summoned Bolsinaro’s lawyers, demanding them to explain his alleged non-compliance with orders limiting his use of social media. Members of his party have slammed the restriction. We want to guarantee that former President Bolsaro will be more present than ever within legal spaces. Still granted, even with censorship, we will seek all communication strategies to continue giving him a voice. And if he is prevented from having a voice on social media, we will speak for him. Bolsinaro’s lawyers were given 24 hours to put forward an explanation. The judge has threatened to arrest him if they failed to justify his behavior. The former president has scrapped an interview with a local news outlet that would have been published with YouTube on Monday.

Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro is facing trial for allegedly plotting a coup to overturn the 2022 election, alongside 33 others. He’s under strict court orders—including an ankle monitor, curfew, and social media ban—and risks arrest after appearing in public and speaking to the press.

  1. Innocent person? You tried the coup, my guy. Like trump did.
Unlike America, Brazil seems to have enough law and order to not let that slide. And this is me saying it. The person who dislikes Mr. Lula.

  2. Absolute witch hunt, he's not great but this is just undemocratic. France should seriously stay quiet on this since they are attempting the same.

  3. Brazil is 56% afro Brazilians. When are they going to have a voice in their own country of any of the political parties. Smh…it's sad.

  4. Why are thugs given so much room and accommodations before they are swiftly tried and put behind bars. Are other countries trying to follow US shameful system of giving in to criminals in positions of power
