One time skiing in Grindelwald, we took the cog train up for a relaxing ride up and some American tourists (I am American myself but live in Solothurn) started talking about “Hey, look at those solar panels on the mountain side over there. That’s pretty cool that they put solar panels on the mountains.” I almost lost it and couldn’t muster up the courage to tell them that they were just protection from avalanches. So my girlfriend just enjoy cracking up internally for the rest of the ride up.

I live there and hear many visitors asking about those lines. I allways make up answers… last time someone asked, I told these are cow-catchers, cause in spring, when the cows are back in the alps again, they are not use to the altitude and sometimes get dizzy loose balance.
