The aircraft of the Latvian national airline airBaltic, which flew on Sunday, 27 July on the route Riga-Reykjavik, returned to Riga Airport due to a malfunction in the cabin air supply system, representatives of airBaltic told LETA.

According to information on Flightradar24 website, the airBaltic flight from Riga to Reykjavik departed at 23.01 on Sunday, 27 July, and returned to Riga Airport at 23.40.

airBaltic explained that shortly after take-off on the Riga-Reykjavik flight on Sunday, the pilots detected an indication of a malfunction in the cabin air supply and temperature control system, which limited the continuation of the flight over a longer distance.

A precautionary decision was therefore taken to return to Riga, where the necessary technical support and spare parts are available.

The airline said that before landing, the aircraft spent time in a holding area near Riga Airport, using fuel to reduce the weight of the aircraft, as required by aviation safety procedures.

Upon return to Riga, the aircraft was inspected and after confirmation of its technical readiness, the flight to Reykjavik was secured, the airline added.

The Latvian national carrier does not call the incident an emergency.

The aircraft in question is also scheduled to fly on Monday.
