Today (April 24th) citizens of France will vote in second round of election which will determine who become (or remain) president of Republic for next five years (2022-2027). They can choose between two candidates, who received most votes in the [first round](https://www.reddit.com/r/europe/comments/u03mpx/2022_french_presidential_election_1er_tour/).

**Turnout** in last (2017) elections was 74.6% (2nd round). This year, it is expected to be even lower – voter abstention is a major problem. Albeit of course, such numbers might seem huge for countries, which tend to have much lower elections turnout normally…

Two candidates taking part in the final battle are:

Name|Party (Europarty)|Position|1st Round|Recent polling|**Result**
:–|:–|:–|–:|–:|–:
[Emmanuel Macron](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emmanuel_Macron) (incumbent)|La République En Marche! (Renew Europe)|centre (liberal)|27.8%|53-57%|TBA
[Marine Le Pen](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marine_Le_Pen)|Rassemblement National (I&D)|far-right (nationalist)|23.2%|43-47%|TBA

Polls close at 20:00 (8 PM) CEST ([link to timezone converter](https://dateful.com/time-zone-converter)), and exit polls should be published soon after.

  1. Guys, the polls in France are always good, and it’s not even the averages that you have to follow but rather the trend of the past 2-3 rounds of polls. Le Pen doesn’t stand a chance, and by the next election, it will be Melenchon who will be huge, not the Far Right. Those are the correct conclusions from the 1st round and the 2017 election IMHO.

  2. What’s up with France’s and a lot of Europe’s stance on immigrants? Feels like it wasn’t as big of an issue here even in the Trump era.

  3. Where is the War megathread?

Can we post pics yet? I’ve made some maps I would like to post here.

  4. Just so you know: a day of presidential election in France is 10 hours straight of journalists talking about the abstention numbers compared to the precedent election. For 10 hours. This is an exercise of filling the blanks.

  5. IDK why, but tonight I had the weirdest dream of my life.

As a preparation for his election against Le Pen, Macron invited me to debate against him. I obviously seemed like an idiot against a great debater like Macron. It felt like he invited me just to seem very smart in presence of someone like me. But he came off as very arrogant because of it and he lost the election. Then I blamed myself because I am a very pro-EU person and Macron is obviously better than Le Pen for EU.

  6. Why so many age group under 65 have majority voting for Le Pen? Looks like over 65s will save Macron. But in future election when these older voter are not so prominent it seem like we are destined to have a Le Pen or Melenchon as a presidente.
