On July 28, 2025, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, appointed Svitlana Zalishchuk, a former member of parliament, as Ukraine’s ambassador to Sweden. The corresponding decree, number 556/2025, was published on the official website of the Office of the President.
The document states:
“Appoint Zalishchuk Svitlana Petrivna as Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Ukraine to the Kingdom of Sweden.”
This appointment was part of a series of changes in the diplomatic corps, as on July 21 Zelensky announced the appointment of 16 new Ukrainian ambassadors to various countries around the world.
Biography of Svitlana Zalishchuk
Svitlana Zalishchuk was a member of the Verkhovna Rada of the VIII convocation, representing the Petro Poroshenko Bloc party. She actively worked in the Committee on Foreign Affairs. In May 2019, Zalishchuk left the BPP faction and supported presidential candidate Anatoliy Hrytsenko.
That same year, she attempted to enter the IX convocation of parliament, running as an independent candidate in constituency 199 of Cherkasy region, but was unsuccessful. After that, she became an advisor to Prime Minister Oleksiy Honcharuk on foreign policy issues, but left this position following his resignation.
In 2020, Zalishchuk worked as a freelance advisor to the Office of the Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, Olga Stefanishyna, and was also an advisor to the chairman of the board of Naftogaz, Yuriy Vitrenko.
Besides her political activities, Svitlana Zalishchuk is known as an activist who participated in the Revolution of Dignity, and from 2011 to 2014 was a co-founder and coordinator of the Chesno movement.
