Why even vote when they’re going to do whatever the fuck they want anyway
There does seem to be some conversation about it. They had a segment on bbc news today calling the law pointless as VPNs surge in popularity.
Signed
Almost like the Uk isn’t an actual democracy.
What’s it like being this paranoid?
The online government petition website gives the public the illusion that we can influence change.
I don’t understand why people just come together and form a thinktank – politicians seem willing to listen to those a lot.
363,228 people signing online compared to, er.. 16.5 million who voted for Labour or the Conservatives last year, both of whom wanted this Act to go ahead?
But yeah, the 363,000 is more important apparently.
This demonstrates what a sham democracy is. A shamocracy if you will.
Let me save you all the time and emotional investment in this:
1. “Look at this petition. We should review the Online Safety Act.”
2. *Reviews Online Saftey Act for 2 seconds*
3. “No.”
4. The End.
Funny how the Taliban (or whoever) data breach vets this happens
this petition is so pathetically small in comparison to the UKs population that they wouldn’t bother to listen to us anyway. If we got double the signatures we currently have, we’d officially be the 1%
What are people so worried about? The fact that they might have to prove that they’re old enough to watch porn? Or is it that this may help a young child not see stuff that’s inappropriate?
One petition never changes things. It’s not about one petition. If you want change, write to your MP *and* petition *and* generally be more politically involved. MPs respond to what they hear most from constituents because it’s how they keep their jobs.
I will say one thing- all these posts bitching about this online.. you have to protest in person, not behind a device (with a VPN, obs.)…
I say this as someone who desperately doesn’t want this to come to pass, but Labour are practically writing the Reform pledges that are going to bag them a landslide without compromising their horrible politics:
• Repeal the Online Safety Act
• Reverse the cuts to the fuel allowance
• Reverse the voting age reduction (I think this one is good but no doubt there’s a campaign against it already)
• Reverse increase in employer national insurance contributions
etc etc
And just like that. Reform won the next elections.
Welcome to MUGA folks. Say goodbye to your rights
This is where we should follow the french example of dealing with govt changes we dont like.
Has the petition ever worked?
What’s that saying?
If voting/petitions made any difference, the government wouldn’t let you do it.
So forget petitions, write a letter to your MP, do it tomorrow
It’s the same for EVERY petition that gets enough signatures. The government takes one look at it, says “Nuh-uh peasants, we know best!”, and that’s that.
Petitions don’t work
Gooners signing a list to say they’re unhappy because they had just a little bit of friction to look at porn.
Every single person who signed is a porn addicted man.
Still, Im kinda ok ppl under 18 aren’t online looking at porn
With Reform saying they’ll repeal the act, they may do, cause otherwise its gonna hand Reform another 5% in the polls.
But then again, this is Starmer we’re talking about, and he’s as stubborn as a mule.
This isn’t my proudest wank, but with things as they are… 🤷🏻♂️
Americans threw tea into the Harbor to protest..
Maybe bottles of lotion need to start floating down the Thames with “Fuck Off!” written on the side. 😄
(Naw, don’t do that: I don’t want to be responsible for that mess…) 😉
As much as I wish, sometimes a partition could work were all left wondering what to do in the start of the dark times
