Crane crash in Salinas leaves driver seriously injured after landing on another car
A crane veered off Highway 101 in Salinas this morning, crashing onto a woman’s vehicle and leaving the driver with major injuries. The intersection of Griffin Street and East Alisal Street remains closed following the incident. The California Highway Patrol confirmed that the crash involved two vehicles. At around 6:13 a.m., a 35-year-old man from Sutter Creek was driving southbound on Highway 101 when he collided with the guardrail, tore through the railing, and landed on top of a Jeep Cherokee.Saul Perez, a CHP spokesperson, said, “The Ford truck went off the freeway, veered off the road, hit the guardrail, actually went down on this overcrossing right here.”Perez added, “At this point, it seems to be the driver of the forklift appears to have a suspect and major injuries. For the other party that was involved at this point, there’s no injuries involved.”The second party involved is a 45-year-old woman from Salinas who is recovering from her minor injuries. The driver of the crane suffered major injuries. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved in this incident.
