ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – The first weekend following a deadly shooting at the Gaslight Lounge in Anchorage has come and gone. Downtown bar owners tell Alaska’s News Source that new policing measures helped keep things quiet on 4th Avenue.
Gaslight Lounge owner John Pattee said he was in favor of the changes that the Anchorage Police Department made the week prior.
On Monday, Pattee said the weekend went smoothly, thanks in part to the new police procedures.
“Everything went fine, didn’t have any problems,” Pattee said.
“The police were out in the back, guarding that empty lot and they were also – there were several in the front. They mainly stayed across the street.
“They bagged all the meters on both sides, and the police, they did a good job. When someone tried to park, they would come up to the car and ask them to move along and so the front area was pretty empty.”
The shooting, a week earlier, was the result of activity out in front of the Gaslight, according to security footage. Pattee said that the shooter had not been inside the bar, so having fewer people congregating outside helps keep the peace.
APD said that there were two calls over the weekend in that area, both of which were for fighting.
