I don’t see how a traveller is any different from normal Irish people but they want to be special.
🍿🍿🍿Get your popcorn here, this is going to be one hot thread coming up to lunchtime!🍿🍿🍿
Jokes aside they have nobody to blame but themselves really as they are the ones whose “culture” are causing these deaths. Travellers need change from within.
I have to say, I’ve never seen a regular person been racist to a traveller, like who would be stupid enough to slag one off.
I do believe they need to start within.
I lived near a halting site growing up and they terrorised the area, stealing, assaulting and threating kids & adults alike. They didn’t do themselves any favours at all but even still there was no ‘racisim’
They need to take a long hard look at themselves and stop blaming the rest of the country for everything.
Never seen anyone being racist or abusive to a traveller… on the other hand

Do you think the mods get an eye twitch every time someone posts something about travellers?
Ah, I see it’s our fault again.
I’m sure treating anyone in their community with mental health issues like a leper has nothing to do with it.
I’m not sure you have a culture if your culture is 100% dependent on others to support it.

Their way of life is a complete clusterfuck, it isn’t sustainable in the modern world.
I think there’s a lot more to it than racism.. unemployment, education, violence, drink, drugs, marrying young, kids, living conditions all play a huge roles…
Too easy to whitewash it as racism, most of it will only change if the travelling community wants it
Sure there is a suicide crisis in our settled culture, I shit you not, 2 people in 2 weeks have killed themselves in my village, 3 months ago another man took his life in the same village and 2 other men in the village next over about 6-8 months ago.
This is a human problem men and women all over Ireland and not just a single culture issue

Literally, just of then phone with my Father, after himself and a neighbor were scammed out of money for a hedge to be cut. Looked for cash and money up front, “the trimmings will be extra to remove”…”will come back for them tomorrow, but need to be paid now”.
I have honestly never, ever, had a good interaction with them, found my Mother’s grave covered in beer cans and they had pissed and shat all around the graveyard, after they had kept a recently deceased member of their ‘community’ company over night, seemingly it’s a cultural thing, to drink cans overnight with the dead.
When travellers take ownership of the criminal elements of their culture and marginalise those who profit from it I will happily listen to any debate on systemic racism holding them down.

I’m sure this is all the fault of non travellers. Have pavee point blamed us yet ?
Losing 28 family members to suicide over a 10 year period, that’s fucking grim.
It’s very much THEIR issue and not OURS.
Yet, AGAIN WE and being blamed for THEIR culture.
And we just have to sit back and accept it, no debate can be had with these people.
My own experience with a member of the Travelling community. She did her level 5 childcare course with me. She was top of our class in every assignment and always spoke about wanting to go on and do the level 8 and she would have been class at it with her grades and work ethic. She was 18 and had her whole life ahead of her. Lovely lovely person. Her boyfriend basically left her with an ultimatum, marry me now and leave education or I’ll kill myself. The girl didn’t know what to do and went to her family for advice. Fast forward a few months and she’s walking down the aisle with a man she didn’t want to be with, threw her entire future out the window abandoned all her hopes and dreams. All because of family pressuring her to conform to the culture.
I’d said there is a few things about that way of life that is contributing to this. The internal issues are probably going to be ignored and only the external focused on.
Got a bus from Belfast to dublin 4 years ago first time I encountered travellers in my life.
2 woman and their kid sat behind me the kid kicked my chair for 30 mins straight. I said to the woman can your kid stop kicking my chair and they all laughed at me.
Got up and moved to the front of the bus could hear them laughing again lol hopefully never encounter them again
As usual, there is zero accountability for a culture that propagates pervasive criminality, substance abuse, shunning educational opportunities and absolute disregard for the quality of life of those living within the vicinity of travelling sites.
If the Travelling community were to take a proper introspective look into the flaws of their culture, I’d take some of their protestations and invective pointed at the rest of society a little more seriously.
Until that happens, I have neither the time nor energy to pretend to care about victimhood attention seeking from campaigns like this.
I did some work on a music project for travellers.
Really well funded and a great opportunity for them to get an insight into both performance and business sides of the business.
Great times with all the groups but there wasn’t one group who didn’t turn violent or steal at some point. It was just a given.
I remember one guy was trying to get into my car when I came outside 😂 told me to relax it was nothing personal and he’d see me tomorrow
