  1. Good. It’s important that we support them, but not under any circumstances. We don’t need another cleptocracy.

  2. Does it work for Nord Stream and Cum Ex or for Orban?

  3. Finally

But these demands are not enough.

Zelenskyy needs to stop the political persecution of the opposition and critics like Shabunin, fix the situation with the ESBU, and expel Tatarov from his office.

Ukraine’s problems do not justify Russia’s war and military aid should continue.

Life under occupation is worse than corrupt Ukraine.

But Ukraine still needs to move towards democracy if it wants help in various areas and wants to be part of the EU

  4. Contrast that to the deafening silence on rule of law, civil liberty violations and corrupt “anti-corruption” agencies in member states. EC loves to threaten candidates but once your contry gets in it’s all fair game, as long as you can help push the EPP agenda.

  5. Why is Zelensky so power hungry all of a sudden?

Why defang the anti corruption agency?

Just because America is led by a power-hungry dictator, doesn’t mean you have to do it.

  6. It’s kinda hypocritical.

While I agree that the anti-corruption agencies should remain independent in Ukraine, maybe Europe should introduce it’s own independent anti-corruption agency first

  7. Zelensky has a bill going to the Radha on the 31st to reverse the bill and strengthen the independence of the anti corruption agencies

  8. No funding until house is clean. Instead of cleaning house, Ukraine is actively destroying anti-corruption efforts.

  9. Cutting pensions and social payments could bring to consciousness old farts who are supporting attack on NABU/SAP and urge Zelensky to speed up reverse of this bs bill

  10. That’s what the EU should do but I fear it is just empty talk like the ‘trade bazooka’ against Trump.

  11. Every governmental employee that’s proven or likely to have participated in corruption should be sent to the front lines.

I’d like to see politcians and their families fighting for their country too with same odds of dying as regular people anyway. This would bring those numbers closer.

  12. I don’t know about this. Of course corruption isn’t good, but they’re an Eastern European country in a war and probably need the oligarchs to play along.

  13. Given that Zelensky still went through with trying this I imagine he must have thought them holding Russia at bay makes them too important such that the EU would look the other way. And he also seemingly thought his own population would just accept it. Lord knows how much of a stupid decision this was.

  14. Thank you EU. It is the only leverage for our gov. They are out of their f…g minds.

  15. Why can we be assertive against Ukraine but when it comes to the US it seems like we beg on our knees for their forgiveness

EDIT: The new trade deal is still an absolute humiliation and was not necessary. Which proves my point.

  16. Once again succumbing to US pressure

Soon enough Von Leyden will be asking for Clinton emails and the cloudflare server

  17. Uhm… I might be ignorant. But ELI5 please. Why is EU financially supporting non-EU government?

  18. All this smells like FUD.

I rather we continue supporting Ukraine. Send someone to audit if needed.

  19. I wholeheartedly support this decision by the EU to withhold financial and military aid from the Zelensky government in Ukraine unless Zelensky restores the independence and autonomy of anti-corruption agencies. The gutting of these anti-corruption agencies by Zelensky and the ruling party has caused a political backlash in Ukraine, including demonstrations, threatening to undermine Zelensky’s legitimacy both domestically and internationally. Zelensky and Ukraine are already walking on thin ice. The Ukrainian president could not have given Putin and Russia a better gift. Zelensky must restore the independence of the Ukrainian anti-corruption agencies. It is both the right and politically advisable thing to do. Perhaps it is time for presidential elections in Ukraine!

  20. Hot take, do you think the move to disestablish the independence of said bodies was done under durress from the Americans in exchange for the continuation of military aid?

It would make sense to me that considering the Trump admin is a fully fledged cleptocracy it would be beneficial for them to have a lack of oversight as they seek to fleece the country in exchage for it’s support.

  21. Whats the name of famous EU independent anti corruption agency again? You know, the one who would investigate Von Der Lying about her magically wiped phone she was using to negotiate vaccine contract with Pfizer’s CEO in private.

  22. I talked to my Ukrainian collages today in regard to this, they are absolutely disgusted by Zelenskyy and this move. I think the quote was “we are being taxed to death, everything else stolen by crooks and then sent to the battlefield to die”

I understand there is war, but these anti corruption agencies need to survive to ensure when the war is over, Ukraine will have the legitimacy of a clean democratic state that should funded by the western powers to be rebuild.

  23. There was Russian plants in the agency which is why he disbanded it.

  24. Fair. The entire point is that Europe and the US are trying to help defend Ukraine’s democracy.

  25. this could be a point do discuss in talks with russia and end all this, but EU is more interested on *unconventional* treaty with US tariffs
