1. >Starmer said this would happen “unless the Israeli government takes substantive steps to end the appalling situation in Gaza, reaches a ceasefire, makes clear there will be no annexation in the West Bank, and commits to a long-term peace process that delivers a Two State Solution”.

   This Israeli cabinet is not going to meet _any_ of the requests here, let alone all of them. If Palestine isn’t recognised in September I want to see half of Starmer’s cabinet resigning.

2. Lets see if he follows through, seems a fair statement.

3. About time some serious pressure is put on Isreal, Gaza is on the brink of total famine

4. A productive attitude. The British government has always held that a Palestinian state should be established as part of a negotiation to a two state solution, otherwise it’s just a bit pointless and fuzzy, like what is the “Palestinian state”, how can it survive as a state without Israeli consent? If negotiation towards a two state solution has clearly been abandoned by Israel then a change in tack seems reasonable to me.

6. Why not just do it anyway, frankly why not just do it now?

7. Recognising a states existence is a bargaining tool?

   What the hell…

   Is it just me who finds that rather, uh, distasteful.

8. Will there be any Palestinians left by then? It’s utterly horrific over there right now

9. Am I missing something but does the “threat” of recognising Palestine as a state not seem at odds with the demand of committing to a two state solution?

   Like if Israel changed their goals to that would we then not recognise one of the two states we were just asking for?
