EU Commission: Why chat control is so dangerous

  1. >Member states could support the proposal. Slovenia, which currently holds the Council Presidency, has declared the fight against child abuse to be one of its main priorities. The Council Presidency wants to focus on the „digital dimension“, according to a Council paper from September published by Statewatch. End-to-end encrypted communication in particular makes life difficult for investigative authorities. Therefore, the role of „proactive measures“ – i.e. automated approaches that screen the content – should at least be discussed.

    >Nevertheless, attempts to revive the zombie of data retention with legal tricks have not died down. The demand is regularly found in Council papers of the EU countries. This kind of mass surveillance is also still included in the German Telecommunications Act, even if it is currently suspended.

Motherfucking, piece of shit, Council of assholes.

  2. *In the fight against the spread of child sexual abuse material, the EU Commission is considering dangerous measures: automated searches of content on mobile phones and computers.*

    How about no?

Or better: no, fuck off, you fucking Stasi wannabe fuckers.

*Automated scanning could be illegal, according to a legal opinion by Prof. Dr. Ninon Colneric (PDF). Generally, in the EU, surveillance without any reason or suspicion is prohibited because it violates fundamental rights. The European Court of Justice has repeatedly confirmed this view and, for example, repeatedly reprimanded data retention.*

    Good!

*So far, there are no broad civil society alliances against the proposal, but the protest is just getting louder. The EU Pirate MEP Patrick Breyer has put together an action page at chatkontrolle.de. He calls on people to contact representatives of the EU Commission, such as the EU Commissioner for Home Affairs, Ylva Johannson, or the EU Commission President, Ursula von der Leyen, via telephone and e-mail and to express their protest.*

People, please, contact your representatives and tell them to oppose this gross overreach and disregard for privacy. Write, call, fax, tweet!

  3. So dangerous, yet so tempting. The EU likes mandates and control so very much, how can they possibly help it?

  4. Eh the European court of justice would turn this down.

As always people LOVE voting in politicans that limit privacy in the name of but the pedos and the terrorist bs. They do that with gun control too but the people are in support of it.

At this point citizens deserve what they get since they are complacent or worse they actively vote for parties in favour of these policies.

  5. They don’t fucking care about the children, if they did, they would actually help the most vulnerable children first, You know, the ones living on the street who actually might get dragged into human trafficking, and the ones who have abusive parents or other relatives.

  6. Wait a minute, wasn’t this shit proposed months ago already? Or is it a different one.

Either way, thanks for the daily reminder of why I would permanently revert the world in a loop of the 70s, 80s and 90s if I could.

  7. Edit: rant removed, have decided to give up on humanity instead of continuing to get upset on the daily. This is a losing battle, nothing short of bloody revolution will stop the appetite for ever-increasing surveillance, precisely out of fear of an eventual reckoning. Child abuse is just the latest excuse, because terrorism doesn’t quite generate the necessary anger anymore to keep people from thinking rationally about it and demand change. There will be other excuses, sooner or later. What there won’t be, ever, is a stop to calls for more surveillance, because paranoia cannot be satisfied. If you can still muster the will and energy: fight. I’m too old and tired for this shit, I’ll go on a hike instead. At least for now, there still are no cameras out in the forest. Have a nice day.

  8. I know the subject trending was very last minute in the run-up to the final vote in July, but where the hell were some of you during the summer?!

Regardless, Chat Control is an abuser’s wet dream, as well as Orban’s unsettling overreaching policies to crush LGBT+ acceptance in Hungary.

    Fuck the EU.
