News flash: inhaling a burning gas/substance into your body will have negative health effects.
Headline: Smoking ***weed*** gives you cancer.
Article: ***Smoking*** weed (or tobacco) gives you cancer.
Really shows you how downhill these .edu sources have become in the past ten years of anti-intellectualism and stocking their management and director jobs with right-wing idiots.
Edibles and dry herb vaporizers it is, then.
Smoking is bad for you?!
This is like those ‘seed oil’ studies that people who listen to too many podcasts worry about. The study shows “eating less fried food is good for you” but no, it has to be about the seeeeeed oils.
Here’s the stats on Oral Cancer: [https://www.healthline.com/health/oral-cancer/how-common-is-mouth-cancer](https://www.healthline.com/health/oral-cancer/how-common-is-mouth-cancer)
Looks like edibles for me then
TIL: I have cannabis use disorder.
This is why I only smoke the brand that Doctors trust most!
Not surprising – inhaling burning material isn’t very good for your mouth or lungs.
Smoking -the verb- has been like that since FOREVER. lmao
I heard it doubles your chance of oral sex tho because weed makes people horny. Some times. Some people. Some weed too maybe
I’m not sure why anyone would be surprised that smoking anytihng causes potential health issues.
Breathing anything besides air is generally not great for you long term
The article only talks about smoking it rather than vaping or edibles. It also points out that smoking tobacco increased the risk by over 600 times so this makes me really question the value of this study. They do a rather bad job of any level of statistics so we don’t really know how common cancer is from the study and it never mentioned any vaping control groups. Sure they mooted the possibility it inhibits the immune system but again no actual evidence.
I wonder why even do such a truncated blurb without proper context. It isn’t even a high level of risk for those cavepeople presumably in their old age and set in their ways who still combust and haven’t heard of vapes and edibles.
Triples the risk from what baseline percentage you ask?
“Among 45,129 eligible patients, 949 (2.1 %) developed CUD. Oral cancer incidence was 0.74 % in the CUD group and 0.23 % in non-CUD patients.”
lol
Who funded this study? We all know smoking is going to do this? Did the booze industry fund this one?
There was another study linking smoking pot to heart attacks later in life.
I do believe that was only smoking it so edibles and vaporizing is safe ( I think)
Tripling the risk of oral cancer is good information, but also somewhat scare tactic clickbait. Chewing tobacco can increase the risk as much as 50 times based upon a few studies. Also consuming alcohol can increase the risk by a similar number. Even a diet low in fruits and vegetables can increase the risk of oral cancer, so don’t panic stoners… rinse your mouth with alcohol free mouthwash and shout at the devil!
Everyone should actually read the study…
“Oral cancer incidence was 0.74 % in the CUD group and 0.23 % in non-CUD patients.”
Yes, cannabis users were about 3 times the risk of oral cancer. But come on people, this is how they get your attention. The actual rate of incidence matters too.
Good thing I inject the marijuana plants into my veins.
Breaking news, being alive increases risk of cancer and other fatal diseases!
Not if you vape or eat. News Flash . . . Combustion causes cancer
How high are you guys rt now?
Soooo what about smoking weed without “cannabis use disorder”
Fuckin dogshit headline, man
No shit smoking is bad, but there’s a lot more to cannabis than smoking
Cannabis use???? Smoking, vaping or edibles? Which one?
Edibles people. They’re great
The fact they are trying to pin it on cannabis instead of a it being linked to the smoking of cannabis. I want a study of the ingestion of cannabis for medical uses
Here goes the fear mongering campaign, it seems to be more this last month.
Nowadays breathing oxygen gives u cancer
“Disorder”
Just the title tells me how biased the report is.
How many schoolkids does Gun Owning Disorder kill?
So “combustion products” that means pot fits into the same category as cars, factories, wood fires, burning pits, pretty much everything that burns. Why is this all not legal then?
Big tobacco and alcohol working overtime to vilify cannabis.
“Cannabis use disorder” what kind of fucking propaganda is this
This is the outcome of an analysis of health records. This was not a study, does not contain any scientific breakdown of said compounds, does not account for alcohol use, other illicit drug use, and many other factors that are in play for increased cancer odds.
The worst thing about this article, is that there are peer reviewed studies going back 30 years + showing that cannabis actually has anti cancer properties.
THC has been shown to induce apoptosis in cancerous cells, including highly aggressive gliomal brain cancer.
CBD has been shown to slow, and in some cases stop growth of malignant tumors.
Ever heard of RSO? Its called Rick Simpson Oil and was named after the individual created it. He had malignant melanoma went into remission after applying topically applying the oil. Though im not one for snake oil, there is a growing body of research that gives his claim some credibility.
Here are 64 peer reviewed studies dating back to 1998 with positive outcomes in cancer studies on both humans and animals https://norml.org/marijuana/library/recent-medical-marijuana-research/gliomas-cancer/
This article is all about continuing the stigma of weed is bad, and nothing more.
Before people get on their high horse, keep in mind that alcohol is still worse comparatively
