  3. So?

  4. Great, more income for the government, and less income for a thoroughly corrupt organisation.

Fans are already paying for the subsidies of the clubs, as fans are also paying taxes… If those fans want to continue their hobby to exist, the rest of the population shouldn’t be paying for them. This is on the same level as saying that the government should start handing out money to Apple, because some people really love Apple but think iPhones are too expensive…

  5. The funny thing is that these rules are made to level the playing field with other European countries. The current proposed law would make the Belgian football taxation more in line with European tax laws. So they’re actually whining to get preferential treatment vs other European countries while they still can’t compete on any level.

  7. Belgian football wouldn’t cease to exist. Belgian football would simply be less able to pay wages and transfer fees for foreign players thus making them less competitive in the international scene.
To which I say: so? We’re already irrelevant on club level internationally.

Just start actually operating within your means in terms of transfers and wages by relying on weaker players and your club will be fine.

  8. I’ll probably be downvoted for this but I wouldn’t be surprised if changing these rules would end up costing the government money.
In all likelyhood player wages would just go down massively, meaning only a tiny piece of that €160m would actually get paid. Belgian football would lose European tickets meaning our biggest clubs would end up generating substantially less money, smaller clubs will go down because less money is getting spent on transfers. There’s a reason these exemptions were introduced and it wasn’t only because of prestige but because every league in Europe has similar ones and they generally generate more income than they cost if they are balanced correctly which probably isn’t the case in Belgium.
