After being in limbo for a long time, the Asia Cup 2025 is finally confirmed to take place from September 9 to 28. The tournament’s future became uncertain after the strained relations between India and Pakistan following the dastardly Pahalgam terrorist attack and India’s subsequent retalliation in Operation Sindoor. However, after an Asian Cricket Council meeting in Dhaka on July 24, which BCCI attented virtually, the tournament was confirmed to happen, with the India vs Pakistan group stage match taking place on September 14. Former India star and ex-IPL winner with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) Manoj Tiwary has now lashed out at this decision.
In an interaction with ANI, Manoj Tiwary said that the India vs Pakistan match cannot be held in the wake of the Pahalgam attack, which killed innocent civillians, and then Operation Sindoor. He stated that the match should be called off given the current environment.
“I am against it. The India-Pakistan match should not be held, especially after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam in which civilians were killed. After that, Operation Sindoor took place. The situation was so bad, how can we think of an India-Pakistan match? I feel that it should be reconsidered, and the India-Pakistan match should not happen in such an environment,” Tiwary said.
Manoj Tiwari Cites PM Narendra Modi Speech
In a fiery speech in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday (July 29), Prime Minister Narendra Modi warned Pakistan that if it acts against India, it will be dealt a heavy blow as Operation Sindoor is still ongoing. Citing this speech by the Prime Minister, Manoj Tiwary further went on to say that India and Pakistan should not play.
“Our Prime Minister is saying that Operation Sindoor is still going on… How can we play a match with Pakistan?” Tiwary added.
India can face Pakistan as many as three times in the Asia Cup 2025. They have been placed in Group A, and will face each other on September 14. If they both qualify for the Super Four stage, they will face each other on September 21. Then, if they qualify for the final, they will play each other in the final on September 28.
