  1. Russia later: Oh, woe is us. We were hit by a natural disaster. Can someone send us money?

  2. >A tsunami with a height of **3-4 metres (10-13 feet)** was recorded in parts of Kamchatka, Sergei Lebedev, regional minister for emergency situations said, urging people to move away from the shoreline of the peninsula.

    >The U.S. Geological Survey said the earthquake was shallow at a depth of 19.3 km (12 miles), and was centred about 125 km (80 miles) east-southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, a city of 165,000 along the coast of Avacha Bay. It revised the magnitude up from 8.0 earlier.

    edit 02:03 UTC:

The [USGS revised the magnitude again to 8.8](https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/us6000qw60/executive).

  3. 8.7 in a shallow epicenter seems like it would have caused a lot of destruction? Not to mention a 13 feet wave following up

  4. Doesn’t seem to be too severe for any towns or cities. Hopefully people will be alright.

  5. 3 meter Tsunami is mega.

Imagine being on a beach and the ocean decides to be 3 meters taller.

  6. “Unfortunately some people were injured during the seismic event, one patient jumped out of a window.”

Windows are a natural Russian predator

  7. > Some were hurt while running outside, and one patient jumped out of a window.

    Damn Russian windows strike again.

  8. Hope people there and in surrounding countries are safe. Heard theres even alerts in the US and Chile

  9. I don’t know anything about earthquakes living in Florida. Can someone explain 8.8 earthquake in terms of Florida hurricanes?

  10. Just got an alert. Stay away from beach areas it says.

  11. We even have a Tsunami warning here in New Zealand, expected in like 8 hours. It’s insane to think how much power that requires.

  12. I sure hope Putin & all his arsehole mates were on the beach for it.

  13. It’s funny how during weather events and natural disasters, news stations don’t feel the need to provide an opposing person for discussion.

  14. Here’s a live webcam of Pipeline at Haleiwa on the North Shore of Oahu. Might be a front row seat…

Sending prayers and hoping for safety for everyone.

  15. “Powerful earthquake” is really underselling the strength of an 8.8 earthquake

  16. Hope the Kamchatka bears are alright. There’s a subspecies of giant brown bears on the peninsula.
