Angela Rayner fury at ‘sexist’ Tory claims she uses her legs to distract Boris Johnson

  1. So according to this Tory, Boris isn’t capable of not being distracted from a pair of legs and that’s…. the woman’s fault… for having a pair of legs….

Genuine question, if Boris can’t control whether or not he gets distracted by a pair of legs why is he in control of an entire country?

  2. Really no need to put “sexist” in quotation marks

    It was sexist

Do we put blatant racism in quotation marks? No. So why we doing that for blatant misogyny?

  4. Alternative Headline: Boris can’t stop staring; blames the person being stared at for his actions.

This all falls under standard Tory behaviour:

  5. >The Ashton-Under-Lyne MP wrote: “Women in politics face sexism and misogyny every day – and I’m no different. I stand accused of a “ploy” to “distract” the helpless PM – by being a woman, having legs and wearing clothes. I am conspiring to “put him off his stride”.
    >
    >”The rest I won’t repeat – but you get the picture. Boris Johnson’s cheerleaders have resorted to spreading desperate, perverted smears in their doomed attempts to save his skin. They know exactly what they are doing. The lies they are telling.
    >
    >”The potted biography is given – my comprehensive education, my experience as a care worker, my family, my class, my background. The implication is clear.
    >
    >”But it is the PM who is dragging the Conservative Party into the sewer – and the anonymous Tory MPs doing his bidding are complicit. He and his cheerleaders clearly have a big problem with women in public life. They should be ashamed of themselves.
    >
    >”I won’t be letting their vile lies deter me. Their attempts to harass and intimidate me will fail. I’ve been open about how I’ve had to struggle to get where I am today. I’m proud of my background, I’m proud of who I am and where I’m from – but it’s taken time.
    >
    >”I hope this experience doesn’t put off a single person like me, with a background like mine from aspiring to participate in public life. That would break my heart. We need more people in politics with backgrounds like mine – and fewer as a hobby to help their mates.
    >
    >”Thank you to so many of you for your messages of solidarity and support. For calling this out for what it is. You are making a stand in the name of decency – against those who would further coarsen, cheapen and debase our politics to benefit their own interests. We all deserve so much better.”

    **eta:**

    >Three cabinet ministers and two shadow cabinet ministers are facing allegations of sexual misconduct after being reported to the parliamentary watchdog set up in the wake of the #MeToo scandal.
    >
    >They are among 56 MPs who have been referred to the Independent Complaints and Grievance Scheme (ICGS) over about 70 separate complaints.
    >
    >The allegations involving the 56 include making sexually inappropriate comments and more serious wrongdoing. At least one complaint is believed to involve criminality and concerns an allegation than an MP bribed a member of staff in return for sexual favours.

  6. This ridiculous claim says more about a Tory’s inability to apply executive control over their base urges than anything else.

It’s also a disgusting, misogynist attack line. Pretty much what I would expect from them.

If you vote Tory, this is what you support. This is what you want for our nation. This is what you demand for your daughters. Wise up.

  7. Did he just admit our entire foreign policy is dependent on nobody having an attractive leader…

I don’t get why UK politics just pretends nothing exists outside of it.

  8. Rayner clearly at fault that Boris is always thinking about his next hump, and would shag the hole in the top of dolphin given a chance…

  9. Surely all part of the Boris standard MO – fill the papers with outage pieces, irrespective of whether they’re good or bad (from the Boris/Tory point it view) & the opposition can’t keep up with it all

  10. The end of the Tory Party was always going to be very desperate and dirty.

It isn’t Boris Johnson who is pulling them down now, it’s the party itself.

  11. Well I mean this is is bad for Boris and a real ego boost/compliment for Angela. She’s so hot our prime minister can’t do his job lol kay

  12. That they think this will make people sympathise with Johnson is hilarious.

It’s also probably true he gets distracted, he can’t take his eyes of Kuenssberg’s tits when she interviews him.

  13. We might have found a way to bring them down then? Let’s have the whole Labour front bench sachet in wearing 6 inch heels and miniskirts, and whenever a Tory stands up to speak have them open some porn mags and display the pages. Tories won’t know what hit ‘em

  14. Not sure this came out as strongly as the Tories thought it would.

They have so far stated that we have a PM who is too stupid to know his own laws, too vacant to know what a party is even when he is at it, and too feeble minded to keep his brain on the task when Angela Rayner dares to have legs.

  15. I like her and kinda wish she was Labour leader just because she makes her presence felt more – and no, not because of her legs. Tories are now running in fear if this is the only type of defence they can mount.

  16. Its clearly an attempt to hijack her power as an effective political opponent by instead attempting to objectify her as just a woman who needs to use sex to get her way.

  17. I’m still not convinced that they didn’t steal the idea from a headline on The Onion or something.

It’s deeply misogynistic (welcome to the world of the Mail) but so fucking stupid too.

  18. So Tories don’t like when women cover up from head to toe as they look like “letterboxes”. But if a woman shows her legs, she is at fault for being a distraction? Sounds about right…
