Poland’s preparedness for defense remains a top priority, according to Prime Minister Donald Tusk, who emphasized that the country must stay ready for any situation, even as speculation grows about a possible suspension of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Speaking at a military briefing on Poland’s defense strategy on July 30, Tusk urged that the country’s military modernization efforts should not slow down, regardless of the situation regarding Russian invasion of Ukraine.

“There is a good chance, and many signs indicate, that perhaps the Russo-Ukrainian war will at least be suspended in the near future. But that doesn’t change our situation at all. Poland must be ready to defend itself, regardless of the events on the Russian-Ukrainian front,” Tusk stated. “We cannot lose a single hour or a day in this race for a modern army.”

Tusk’s comments came during a briefing with military leadership, where he praised Poland’s military institutions, their expertise and competence, polish Onet outlet reported.

“I am very impressed with this short but content briefing. We are talking about an extremely competent staff. They are not only commanders and heads of institutes, but also young engineers, computer scientists, and programmers. This is the absolute treasure of the Polish army,” he said.

With defense spending rising, Tusk stressed that Poland’s future security will depend heavily on technological advancements and innovation. “Today, wars are being won by smarter and better-equipped armies, at a higher level of technology,” Tusk pointed out.

Poland’s defense efforts are focusing on ensuring that its investments in military technology and security infrastructure yield tangible benefits for the nation, according to the Prime Minister.

“From a Polish point of view, it is absolutely crucial that the hundreds of billions of zlotys that we want to spend on defense work to the maximum dimension in Poland,” he said.

A key aspect of Tusk’s vision is investment in Polish companies and homegrown innovation. “We will not invest Polish money indefinitely in foreign equipment. We have to invest Polish money in Polish companies and in Polish minds,” he said.

The minister also lauded Poland’s growing prowess in cybersecurity, adding, “Our cybersecurity may be the best team in the world, probably only Americans can compete with us effectively.”

Despite the uncertainty regarding the future of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Tusk’s message was clear: Poland’s defense efforts must continue at full speed, Onet claimed.

To prove the point, it was previously reported that Poland is ramping up its domestic ammunition production in response to Russia’s war against Ukraine and growing security concerns along NATO’s eastern flank.
