The long-running saga surrounding Nelson Deossa’s future has finally come to an end. The Colombian midfielder, who had drawn interest from several clubs, is set to join Spain’s Real Betis, parting ways with Monterrey just months after arriving at the Mexican club in early 2025. While an official announcement from either club is still pending, the deal appears all but done.

How much will Betis pay for Deossa?

According to journalist Willy González, Betis executives flew into Monterrey, Nuevo León on Monday with a clear objective: secure Deossa’s signature. Negotiations with Rayados progressed swiftly, and the transfer fee is reportedly set at $17 million.

Deossa was still present at Monterrey’s training facility on Tuesday, though he trained separately from the squad and did not travel with the team to the United States for the upcoming Leagues Cup fixtures.

As he left the training grounds, Deossa took time to greet fans. When approached by reporters seeking comment on the swirling rumors about his departure, he offered a blunt response: “Don’t believe all the stupid things journalists say.”

At 25, Deossa is on the verge of realizing his European dream. His standout performances at the FIFA Club World Cup with Monterrey caught the attention of clubs across Europe, South America and the Middle East. Now, he’s headed to Betis – a club that previously featured Sergio Canales, his teammate at Rayados.

Deossa has yet to feature in the Apertura 2025 campaign due to a left ankle injury. His last appearance came during the Club World Cup, where Monterrey faced Borussia Dortmund in the round of 16.

The midfielder began his professional career with Atlético Huila in Colombia and also played for Atlético Nacional. He had a stint in Argentina with Estudiantes de La Plata before moving to Mexico in 2024 to join Pachuca. After a year, he made the switch to Monterrey – and now, he’s bound for LaLiga.
