Should we accept this kind of communism?

  1. I love the idea, but your local taxes already covered your fee.

  2. I guarantee you that a significant portion of your property taxes fund your local library. I bet if you broke down the costs per visit that you are probably spending over a hundred dollars per visit to the library.

  3. The real question is if libraries are living up to their concept, relative to costs. From a utilization perspective, I’d bet libraries are massively expensive. Idealistically, libraries have endured, in spite of being financially impractical, and this is always my concern when it comes to public services.

  4. I guess human capital and wellbeing isn’t measured in terms of economics, which makes sense why.

  5. The societal impact of an educated youth is difficult to measure.

  6. So now ya’ll want to come after libraries :D? I live in Canada and pay a buttload of taxes…I hope a big portion goes to the library because they have some great books, great programs and a wonderful atmosphere most people can enjoy. Towards the end of the year If i have some extra room I try to donate to the library.

More libraries are welcome in my opinion!

  7. There’s a current Podcast Called “Natalie Haynes Stands Up for the Classics” and she’s done one on the **Library of Alexandria**. It’s fascinating and funny and truly heartbreaking about how much was lost to Caesars and Cleopatras Fire – yeah, that one.

  8. Libraries are awesome and are underappreciated. If you’re not taking advantage of your local libraries and the enormous resources they offer, you’re missing out imo. My local library for example doesn’t just have books you can loan, it also has a bunch of other stuff like DVDs, CDs, STEM education kits, and even cake trays (really).

A library card (at my local library anyway) also grants you free access to about 5 different free ebook services, where you can also watch some free TV shows and movies.

They also have interviews with authors regularly, you can pop down, meet an author, ask them questions, and enjoy some free wine and food that’s served while you’re there too. There’s computers you can get on and use for free, free wifi, a weekly knitting group, .. and so on and so on and so on… All free!

    Libraries are awesome!

  9. It’s free for a reason.

The history books are written in a skewed manner.

I’m not the smartest guy. Consider myself average and I never realized the “pilgrims” were actually immigrants from the UK.

Only after Obama said it was when I realized it.

So had the history books not used the word pilgrims and just say as it is, immigrants or illegal immigrants, it would had set a different tone, but an honest tone.
