There is nothing to be ashamed of, the Confédération du Rhin was a worthy endeavour: a peaceful union of German states, with a parliament, free of prussian militarism and Habsburg absolutism. Actually, look at Germany today: it is mostly the Rheinbund +Brandeburg.
In fact, I’ll go further: 200 years later, Europe looks very much like Napoleon hoped it would! Beyond the EU, we have independent Irish, Polish and Baltic republics. Prussia and the Habsburg empire are gone. Italy is unified and the Papal States are long gone. The Ottomans are expelled from the Balkans. Cherry on the cake: Europe is now overwhelmingly comprised of constitutional republics. Russia’s borders have been pushed further east.
Napoleon had crippled Prussia for a while, but Napoleon III weakened their rivals (Austria and Russia, for no reason whatsoever) paving the way for a Prussia lead German empire… The biggest catastrophe of French history ngl.
Result: 1.4 million dead French soldiers in 1918 basically.
In fairness they created a lot of smaller states, but eventually, yes this is true.
Not everything Napoleon did was good.
Excusé moi, you mean a glorious moment of Napoleon? To dissolve that counterfeit “Holy Roman Empire” which was also a travesty bearing those stolen banners from the Eastern Roman Empire while claiming they are successors of the Western one? It was a farce and the audience left already!
Yeah, it’s not like we had a lot of internal struggle of liberal and nationalist groups fighting and dying for this idea, it was only due to a „French“ dude from Corsica who singlehandedly created it

Worst thing we’ve ever done, sorry lads.
And that made England and France friends
Yes, we’re terrible at creating countries…

The only anomaly is, well, Belgium… 😉
And then Germany shaped modern France.
