Yep. We were always going to get concentration camps from the Tories. They’ve been itching for this for years.
EDIT: Go ahead and downvote me guys but every single death in one of these camps is your fault, Tory voter; You want the deaths, you vote for the deaths, you cheer every single one.
EDIT EDIT: BRING ON THE BRIGADE!
I’m confused where we CAN keep asylum seekers? Also, Yorkshire really needs the jobs so now isn’t the time to complain…
Also, if there are 1200 or even 500 people in your village, it’s not a village. It’s a town. And comparing people to the Nazis is pretty sad and ott. But then you get the assumption that being male and Syrian they’re all dangerous so…
Linton-on-Ouse is in the Conservative-held Parliamentary constituency of Thirsk and Malton.
Sounds like the resident NIMBYs need to get some medical attention for the leopards eating their faces.
“Nationals of countries other than Afghanistan, Syria and Iraq may face even longer processing times in Europe. While Germany has an average processing time of 7.3 months for all caseloads, Somali applicants wait on average 21.9 months before receiving a first instance decision.41 Similarly in France, the increase in asylum applications from persons originating from the Horn of Africa, as well as West and Sub-Saharan Africa, has led to longer procedures before the French Office for the Protection of Refugees and Stateless Persons (OFPRA).42 In other countries such as Cyprus, the first instance procedure has often taken 2 to 3 years for nationalities that are not prioritised,43 thereby raising serious questions of compliance with the right to good administration enshrined in the Charter.”
and this was in 2016 when there hadn’t been a worldwide pandemic, is this enough evidence for you?
>RAF Linton closed in 2020 and has a history locals are proud of.
“The Home Office has done more damage to this village in a week than the Germans did in six years of the war,” said Morgan.
Oof thats going to hurt. Patel now alienating everyone but the far right.
>People at the meeting expressed fears that they would become “prisoners in their own home” because of the centre. “They say they’re going to give us CCTV,”
Lovely. Having your village turned into a mini surveillance state complete with facial recognition cameras no doubt so they can match up the suspect with the biometric data taken when they entered the UK
>Villagers point out they don’t have the infrastructure to cope. There are four buses a day to York, 10 miles away. There’s one shop.
Oh yeah and that shop will love it, a guaranteed stream of income
Shop keeper seems to agree
>Yvonne Cavanagh owns the village shop. She could not get in Thursday’s meeting….
I’ve not got an opinion yet,” she said. “They’ve pee-ed off a lot of people. The majority of the village are against it but I think we need to hear the facts first.
Need to hear how much coin will be heading their way
If people are so against these places being built, calling them inhumane- then the only realistic thing Britain can do is bring in mandatory ID. Smash our ridiculous underground economy to pieces, *make it impossible* to work illegally, account for *everyone* on this island. Make it so places like these *aren’t* needed and can’t be filled.
Instantly deport those convicted and in jail, no petitions, no fear for their safety in home countries. We have enough convicts amongst home grown, why entertain keeping foreign nationals who have commited crimes.
Contrary to stereotypes, these men from african nations, Iran and other ME countries don’t come here for benefits, they come here because they can earn more money working under the table. Something has to give because we do not have the resources to shelter the entire continent of Africa and half the ME.
We need places like this. What’s the over option we need minimal processing times but people will need to be housed a processed
When you use phrases like Guantanamo or Concentration Camps to try to demean a European-wide recognised means of sorting individuals who let’s not forget have arrived here illegally, you utterly demolish your own argument whilst being horrifically disrespectful to those who suffered and continue to suffer in actual concentration camps.
Okay, the way refugees and asylum seekers are treated in this country is horrible but it’s just obscene to compare this to an actual torture camp.
For fuck’s sake, another airbase of ours gone then
Not sure how well this work, especially as no doubt the place will be overfilled like that army base very quickly.
Im also wondering how they are getting them there and from, are they using the airfield and planes?
“Guantánamo-on-Ouse” bit dramatic, Guantánamo was for terrorists…
Make it decent accommodation and avoid the likes of G4S, Serco etc. being given the contract and it will be OK. They need to be housed somewhere while applications are processed, it is part of having a functioning immigration process.
