It is a broadly disputed issue. There was a renovation project in place that was about to make the area car free. Yet, I think it got labeled as controversial for some reason and now we are back to the status quo.
Hope to see it as a park one day, not a parking..
Sad to see how car dependent Sofia has become. Unlike a lot of European cities that limit car usage, Bulgarians in Sofia are taking notes from American suburbia where you can’t have a life if you don’t drive.
Sad, but… thats how it is. It was a heavily used road before. Now they made it parking only. Should have made it car free. But the parliament is there and… well you can guess pretty much who has interest to drive there.
Yeah, imagine how many more cars could’ve be parked there. But now we have this “holy” building.

The city council approved a decision to ban parking there, but the government overruled them, because it’s right next to the building the national assembly assembles in and they use the parking spots.
