President Maia Sandu warns that the Kremlin and Moldovan oligarchs are acting together to block the country’s European path. The head of state maintains that this alliance aims to keep the Republic of Moldova in a “gray zone” and hinder democratic reforms, reports IPN.

“The Kremlin, in alliance with the oligarchs and the corrupt from the Republic of Moldova, share the same objective. The objective is to prevent Moldova from developing, from becoming a member state of the European Union. Because neither party needs transparency, neither needs the rule of law. They need to keep Moldova in a gray zone. If power falls into the hands of the Russians, there is a risk that our country could be used against Ukraine, and consequently, the security risks to our country would increase,” declared Maia Sandu during the “Secretele Puterii show on JurnalTV.

The head of state accused the oligarchs of trying to bring Republica Moldova back to the past for their own personal interests. ”For thieves and oligarchs, the goal is to go back in time and extract money from Republica Moldova, because they don’t know any other way to make money. They only know how to steal from citizens and the state,” said Maia Sandu.

According to the president, the electoral scene is also influenced by this collaboration. In his opinion, a significant part of the independent candidates in the parliamentary elections would be supported by the Kremlin, with the aim of creating informational chaos and undermining citizens’ trust in state institutions.

“A large part of the independent candidates are people pushed by the Kremlin, to create this media background that reduces citizens’ trust in state institutions and to throw criticism against political actors. Therefore, their goal is to create as much noise in this election and to disorient the citizens,” the president specified.

Following the Supreme Security Council meeting on Wednesday, President Maia Sandu warned citizens about the risk of influencing the results of the parliamentary elections in September through electoral corruption, illegal party financing, informational manipulation campaigns, organization of paid protests, cyber attacks, etc.
