Ringier Sports Media Group announces sale of sportal.gr and long-term technology partnership with Tomorrow News
Ringier Sports Media Group (RSMG) is sharpening its strategic focus on core markets and has reached an agreement to transfer ownership of sportal.gr to Tomorrow News.
The Greek sports media platform, operated by Ringier Sports Media Single-Member S.A., will continue its operations under new ownership and management beginning of August 2025 onwards.
The decision marks a shift from RSMG building a new brand independently in Greece to enable the further development of sportal.gr through local ownership and expertise of Tomorrow News.
The platform will remain active, continuing to deliver high-quality journalism and digital innovation to Greek sports fans.
Robin Lingg, Chairman of the Board of Directors of RSMG: “We’re pleased that sportal.gr will continue under new ownership. While launching a brand in a competitive market without a local partner proved challenging, we’re proud of the product, the team, and the innovation it brought to life. We are confident that the new owners will continue to build on that foundation.”
As part of the agreement, RSMG and Tomorrow News have established a long-term technology partnership. sportal.gr will continue to benefit from RSMG’s central tech stack and AI-powered solutions, including proprietary content automation tools and the content management system Sportal365. This collaboration ensures continuity in user experience and editorial quality, while allowing the new owners to further localise and innovate.
Robin Lingg: “Looking ahead, RSMG remains focused on accelerating its transformation into a technology-driven media group. By embedding AI and innovation into everything we do, we’re creating the next generation of sports media experiences across our markets.”
With this step, RSMG reaffirms its commitment to its seven core markets: Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia, Portugal, Hungary, Slovakia, and the Netherlands – five of which hold leading positions in digital sports media in their respective countries. These markets reach a broad audience and show high engagement, a reflection of RSMG’s strategic playbook built on strong local brands, experienced teams, and group-wide technological innovation.
The transition of sportal.gr to Tomorrow News marks a new chapter, rooted in local management expertise, continued innovation, and a shared commitment to delivering high-quality sports journalism through cutting-edge technology.
