Criminal proceedings have been initiated against the Italian driver for smuggling foreign nationals. The two Albanians have been returned to Luxembourg.

On Monday evening, July 28, 2025, an SUV (type of jeep) with Italian license plates was inspected by the Federal Police in Perl (border with Luxembourg) as part of newly initiated internal border controls.

There were four men in the vehicle, aged between 24 and 46, namely three Albanian citizens and one Italian, albinfo.ch reports. During the search of the two Albanian passengers, it was discovered that they did not have valid documents to enter Germany. Therefore, criminal proceedings were initiated against them for attempted illegal entry.

The third Albanian citizen presented his Albanian passport and a valid Italian residence permit, which allowed him to legally enter Germany, writes presseportal.de.

Criminal proceedings have been initiated against the Italian driver of the vehicle for smuggling foreign nationals. After the driver was questioned at the Perl police station, he was released on bail, by order of the public prosecutor. He was then allowed to leave the station.

Two Albanian citizens without valid documents were denied entry to Germany and sent back to Luxembourg, from where they had come.
