50 years ago today, three members of the Miami Showband were murdered by a loyalist paramilitary group at Buskhill, County Down.

  1. Murdered, *and* their murderers intended to put a bomb in their car, let them drive off and have the bomb explode so that they could accuse them of smuggling bombs for the IRA.

I always think when I’m reminded of this story that there could easily have been a world where they murdered the whole band and the whole of the British press piled on to paint them as terrorists.

  2. I only heard today that one member was shot 22 times, mostly in face!

  3. Does remembering these events help move past sectarianism and the Unionism Vs Nationalisms debate?

I’d understand maybe if it was less of a blame X group and it was to just make the deaths but it feels as if it maintains the barriers we need to breakdown to move forward.

Just seen some calls it a massacre? It was a murder and a killing and I’d say an assassination and execution.

  4. Classic loyalist tactics. Just hit whoever is easiest with no meaning, symbolism or military significance. The RA were going after Mountbatten and Thatcher or even eejits like McWhirter. They celebrated Adair like he was Rommell cause he shot up Falls Road chippers.
