Initial assessments by traders indicated that the lowest price offered during the first round of tendering from Turkey’s TMO state grain board to purchase and import 225,000 metric tons animal feed barley was $234.90 per ton c&f.
They said that no purchase had been reported, and they expect to have preliminary results later on Thursday. TMOs traditionally negotiate in several rounds, aiming to get lower bids each time.
Trading house Danem was reported to have made the lowest offer for a consignment of 25,000 tons to be shipped to Iskenderun.
The reports reflect the opinions of traders, and it is possible to estimate prices and volume later.
The traders reported a strong level of participation. They were particularly interested in finding outlets for the new crop barley coming from the Black Sea Region. Traders said that a series of price offers below $240 were made.
Barley must be shipped between 8 August and 29 August in at least five thousand tons. Traders said that supplies already imported into Turkey and stored in warehouses under customs bond could also be offered.
The Turkish ports of Iskenderun (Iskenderun), Mersin (Izmir), Bandirma (Bandirma), Tekirdag (Tekirdag), Samsun (Trabzon) and Trabzon should receive the shipment.
The Turkish harvest of barley, wheat and other grains will be lower than expected this year. Imports are needed to stabilize prices and to ensure adequate supplies. (Reporting and editing by David Goodman)
