This story is so heartbreaking and shines a light on the horrific grip the Church had on Irish society. I feel physically sick thinking about those poor babies.
Catherine Corless is an inspiration. It’s great to see her get recognition for the tireless work she has done to expose the cruelty and callousness of the nuns of the Tuam Mother and Baby Home – and not only the church, but the Irish State who were and remain culpable for the crimes committed by the Catholic Church against the most vulnerable in society.
They *knew* and chose to do nothing, rather than dirty their hands, just as they did with the Magdalene Laundries.
It is such a dark and shameful stain to have in the history of our country.
Just one of the many gifts the catholic church has bestowed upon the people of Ireland. One does wonder if Ireland would have been better off had they converted, even though their national identity would have been severely affected
