I'm a bit of a vehicle nerd and feel like someone would also be interested. It had blue lights flashing initially when I was a decent distance away and I just assumed it was police. I felt like I was an extra in Trigger Point as I drove past the blokes in their camo uniforms

  1. Was that South on the a30? Seen a bigger one on there about 4ish myself.

  2. Not the most common sight but is more common than you think! There’s still tonnes of unexploded ordnance being found after WW2 buried under the ground so when one is found, the army bomb squad gets called in to defuse it / make sure it’s defused, then they take it out somewhere and store it till they’re ready to blow it up / dismantle or whatever they need to do to get rid of it for good.

Know lots of people who work in larger construction sites and it’s happened numerous times when the army gets called in to help dig up and understand what bomb has been found and how to get rid of it.

The police’s bomb squads are for dealing with active threats and in a much smaller capacity. Only the British army has the tools to sort out the WW2 bombs.

  3. If you get passed by a bomb disposal van with flashing blue lights, it is probably time to strongly consider going in the opposite direction.

  4. Yeah that’s the faster lightweight response vehicle I believe.. there is also a bigger white truck they normally use..

Family member gets to to do that job for a living..

  5. Old work was next to some historians and they found a grenade from excavation. Got evacuated until army bomb disposal came. Edit: I think it was Royal Marine.

  6. I got followed into Costco’s car park by one a few years back. He parked a long way from anyone else.

  7. My mum found a grenade in her garden during covid times. She called the police, who posted guard in her garden around it until the bomb squad arrived.

The bomb truck looked more like a food truck though, very square, and had hatches that looked like they could just open them and start serving.
