All of Latvian territory is covered by yellow weather alerts for the duration of the weekend, suggesting all but the most hardy of adventurers and dedicated mushroomers will be stuck indoors yet again.

The Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre (LVGMC) has issued yellow alerts (potential danger) for rain on Friday and water levels across the whole country for the period Friday-Monday inclusive.

Friday itself began with the by-now all-too-familiar cloudy and rainy weather in much of Latvia, though in the afternoon there are hopes the sky will clear, especially in Kurzeme region, but in Vidzeme region the weather will remain cloudier and it will continue to rain intermittently. Of course it will – that’s where we are located.

Meanwhile, in places in southern Kurzeme and Zemgale, local storm clouds may form in the afternoon, bringing short-term rain showers. There will be a light to moderate westerly wind and maximum air temperatures in the range of +18 Celsius to +23 Celsius. The weekend is likely to be somewhat similar.

If you’re a tourist heading to Latvia for a sunny summer weekend away in early August, what can we say other than ‘Sorry’? You’ll find we have some nice, dry museums.
